"Goto new posts" not working & PPRuNe pages not opening
Sorry to post this here, can't find a suitable feedback or tech forum.
The "Goto first unread post" link for each thread seems to have stopped working for me, I just get a blank page. |
Same problem.
|
Same here.
|
Works for me, W7/Firefox
D |
W7 firefox 3.6.9 ..not working for me :{
edited to add .. something else also going on .. when I posted this I again got the blank page .. had to redisplay "new posts" before I could see it had indeed been saved ... |
I got a blank screen , displaying 'done' bottom left after clicking 'submit reply' had to reload page to see my reply on board. I blame the French
|
Don't worry, you are not alone, it seems to be a problem with the PPRuNe site.
It seems that an incompetent at IB was tinkering under the bonnet (or rather, hood, as they are in California) and has left a few important bits on the floor. SD |
PPRuNe pages not opening
Since this morning about 80% of the PPRuNe pages I open either do not work (as "the page appear to be broken") or does not load and only a series of numbers appear on the address line of either the mozilla or the IE.
Anyone having the same problem? Rwy in Sight |
Since this morning when I click on the 'first new post' arrow I get a blank page. I'm using Firefox 3.6.9 and having no problems with any other websites I've used today.
|
Me too - tho' it isn't the same for everyone: new posts are being added by other more privileged folk!
Edited to add - SD has words of wisdom on another thread. (New pages not opening.) |
It's not working for me (blank page) if I click the links from the pprune home page, but is fine from other pages (using Chrome)
|
Had a similar problem when editing posts....got a "page cannot be displayed" message....same when clicking on a thread without going into the forum.
My other sites seem fine....in the main..although a couple have returned the same message. Interestingly enough, when I submitted this post, I got the above message and yet the post does appear in the forum |
Hmm - reminiscent of a certain other mod who used to 'tinker under the bonnet' and cause havoc:ugh:. At least the pprune clock is sorted - it reckoned I was up and posting at 0144 this morning - some chance!
Keef started a thread here earlier about the problem - it was reckoned to be a javascript problem. |
It seems that an incompetent at IB was tinkering under the bonnet (or rather, hood, as they are in California) and has left a few important bits on the floor. I think we should be told! |
Isn't the web wonderful, you have a problem and find that you are in a Maori war canoe without a paddle rather than a single seat kayak.
|
Same as above, sounds as if somebody needs having "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" hammered into him with a very large very wet wad of printout.
CJ |
Read new posts has been working for me all day but I am getting that blank screen when I've posted.
|
same problem
me too on Opera
|
Thought it was because I'm sitting (well, lying, now) in a cheap hotel using their free wifi.
I've had to stop trying to use Iplayer as it clogs the system. There's a limit to the download (100 Mb or something) - how does one monitor how much various sites consume? I visit some (other) forums that include photographs - that seems to be 'hungry'. |
G-CPTN,
No, it's not you, obviously... everybody is having the same problems. CJ |
Depends how 'cheap' the hotel is
paints a sad picture: lying on the floor in a cheap hotel downloading photographs off the internet. Poor connectivity may not be the worst that could happen.........
|
When I first got to the computer 24 hours ago, none of the usual PPRuNe pages were available at all.
I was on the point of ringing the Prime Minister, when a second visit about 15 minutes later was rewarded with all of the usual favourites - and a profound sense of relief :ok:. The 'blank page after posting' problem was noted shortly after that. There may have been a more serious problem earlier on, and what we see now are the 'aftershocks'. FWIW FoR |
problem seems to be not only with the 'view first unread'
If I click 'view first unread', on Firefox (v3.6.9) I get a blank page with a URL like "http://www.pprune.org/showthread.php?p=5927726#post5927726" with "Done" in the bottom left-hand corner. In IE I get an "HTTP 500 Internal Server Error" message.
But if I navigate manually to the page, it displays OK, so I just have to guess then page back and forward through the thread until I find out where I was up to. :{ Also got the same symptoms with posting this message. Bah, humbug :* |
Same situation here. I thought that it was because I'm moseying around the Web with and old browser (IE6), but this is happening with old and new browsers.
FWIW. --Bill |
Internal Server Error
Hello
I keep getting this when I try to see threads. |
I get this everytime I post a reply:
The website cannot display the page HTTP 500 Most likely causes: •The website is under maintenance. •The website has a programming error. |
It's broken (a technical term).
Issue is finding a techie who can fettle it. Good ones are very, very rare. There are lots who will tell you they are good, but they are the ones who break it and then walk away :( |
Issue is finding a techie who can fettle it. Good ones are very, very rare. (1) you might not like my prices, and (2) I'm rather busy for the next couple of weeks. |
Try not to clap yourself Gertrude, someone will likely throw you a fish.
|
Guys, believe me we feel your pain. We mods are suffering even more pain.
It appears that IB have walked away for the weekend. Nothing likely to be done until they deign to put in an appearance on Monday morning - that's morning in California, btw. Why is it that their tinkering always happens on a Friday? :hmm: SD |
FWIW I have no trouble opening Pprune pages using Firefox, but email notifications containing a link to the new reply to a subscribed thread fail to display anything beyond a blank page.
[Edit] and posting a reply (just noticed it with this post) returns the same blank page after submission. |
Why is it that their tinkering always happens on a Friday? Most likely the person that did it will also be on holiday for 2 weeks and no-one else knows what they did ... |
hee hee bet its a half arsed cron job gone wrong. Mind you I have done a couple of them myself. A fellow pilot once manged to rm -rf as root at a trading bank. Screwed the banks trading database and the cron job triggered before the daily backup.
It was after this event he was forced to pull forward his aviation career by a few months. |
Most likely the person that did it will also be on holiday for 2 weeks and no-one else knows what they did ... |
Try not to clap yourself Gertrude, someone will likely throw you a fish. Having had the irritation and misfortune to have to direct a team of 'web development specialists' in the past I have learned that most of them wouldn't understand configuration management, unit or regression testing if it crawled out and bit them on the arse. Cue web developer and, most likely, some nincompoop with a smattering of Java, C#, Python (blah, blah, blah) will attempt to wreck your site for you. |
I don't think direct is the correct term for dealing with web developers in the main.
Herding? might be more correct |
in the past I have learned that most of them wouldn't understand configuration management, unit or regression testing if it crawled out and bit them on the arse. Cue web developer and, most likely, some nincompoop with a smattering of Java, C#, Python Seems to me that to build a web site you need "artists", whom you don't let anywhere near the software, "designers", whom you don't let anywhere near the software, and "software engineers", whom you do. I'm one of them (mostly working outside the area of web sites). So I can do an excellent job on making the software work properly, but wouldn't dream of doing any of the arty work, because I'd be crap at it. |
A url such as:
.pprune.org/jet-blast/427173-mysogyny-what.html#post5929784 will take you to the desired page. The website search facility seems to be generating, e.g. .pprune.org/jet-blast/427053-you-chunker-traditionalist-post5929854.html#post5929854 if you remove: -post5929854 you will be left with: .pprune.org/jet-blast/427053-you-chunker-traditionalist.html#post5929854 which sort of works but does not take you to exactly the desired posting. |
You also need a systems peep to make sure they don't have enough rope to hang themselves and the wire is plugged in the wall.
Your developing what? And you want admin rights? Local or server? Actually the answer is the same either way. off. |
Besides having identical problems as described above I get a message saying I must wait anything from 10 seconds to 120 seconds before re-posting and I haven't even tried to re-post but just clicked on to a user-name to check public profile and then get the message.
