No longer a special flower

I've been away for a while and my viewing has been sporadic
but why do I have to copy the illegible letters to sign in? is this for everyone or a new Pprune security thing?

I'm still Pugilistic Animus---not some crazy hacker:uhoh:

Yes, it's for everyone. Anti-terrorism measures, like security at airports. ;)

Try "Remember Me" when logging in.

Assuming you regularly use the same PC and non-trusted others don't.

When you can't read them, just hit the refresh note immediately below them. Whenever I've done that, they've become readable.
The rationale is described at length in another thread

SD - Is there an assumption that terrorists cannot read? I would find that a somewhat dodgy assumption ....

I understand it's just an attempt to confirm that a human (or an intelligent lifeform) is attempting to sign in and not another computer.

Having just upgraded to Opera 10 I have just encountered the "illegible letters" for the first time on this site.

I can understand their value if someone or something is trying to register, but can see no point when someone is trying to log in with both ID and password.

Bots are not that clever, are they?

Pugilistic Animus 26th August 2009 15:30

There are better way to do things... but obviously the mods chose the easy option with the quickest implementation time..... :ok:

Technically it is not the mods, it's the admins who decide on and implement this stuff.

Lots of mods, few admins, but a democracy it ain't, 'cos the admins have all the keys!
