"Usage of Microsoft Corp.'s Internet Explorer browser worldwide has slipped since January, while Mozilla Corp.'s Firefox gained by a nearly equal amount, a Web analytics firm said Friday.

IE use fell by 0.65 percent to 85.17 percent of the market in May, OneStat.com, a Dutch firm, reported. Firefox usage increased by 0.56 percent to 11.79 percent.

In the United States, IE usage was lower than it was globally at 82.47 percent, despite an increase of 1.56 percent since January, OneStat.com said. Firefox use was higher in the United States at 12.81 percent, rising 0.26 percent since January."

I currently have both browsers on my PC, use both in pretty much equal measure. Firefox is less reliable than IE and, having used them both for a few months, I much prefer IE.

I do apologise if this offends your sensibilities.

From "junk" to "less reliable" is better.

But I'm curious about the less reliable bit. I've been using FF almost exclusively for about a year and haven't found it unreliable. If it were, I wouldn't use it - I'm not about to cut my nose off to spite my face! I'd use IE or Opera if FF was unreliable.

Some websites don't display "correctly" in anything but IE (or derivatives using the IE engine like Maxthon), because IE does not follow W3C standards.

That's about all the unreliable I've found and the customisability and the wealth of useful extensions available keep me with FF (Opera would be my 2nd choice).

Sorry, but IE with it's myriad acknowledged bugs and insecurities is too tightly linked to the OS for my comfort.

Totally agree Mac, except for one tiny thing - a previous incarnation of FF used to come up with 'try again' when it couldn't connect to a site first time.

Now, it's gone back to 'OK', which is a nuisance, because this happens fairly frequently on dialup.

There's also the fact that Firefox has been download over 174621552 times according to http://www.spreadfirefox.com/ - if you have one or two dissatisfied punters here and there that's not bad heh? :D

I down loaded IE7 the other day I was very annoyed that it wiped out IE6 on install, as its a beta it sould not do that IMHO but allow you to run both.

I dont use IE very often I prefere firefox, but do use it for sites that wont work on anything else, also some video streams wont work on firefox but do on IE.

Only probs so far is it sometimes fails to realise I use a router and wants to know what connection to use but doesn't give one any choices :confused:

Not sure if this helps but, if you go to Favourites and scroll to the bottom do you get an entry titled "Microsoft"? click on this and half way down you should see, "IE on Microsoft", clicking on this leads to:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.mspx and again half way down left side you will see "IE6" not sure if this will take you to your original IE6 installation or just give you the opportunity to download it again.

Been using IE7 for a while now, ZoneAlarm Pro and Norton Ant-Virus, (but NOT the complete Norton Security System) and so far, so good, also have Microsofts own security system working, it would seem, compatibly!

Have uninstalled IE.7 B2 back to IE.6 and all is well again, detecting proxy server, speed of browsing is noticeably faster with IE6. No disconnects. When the bugs are sorted IE7 should be good. I will wait for the full version.
