request for a website/software

As far as I know, not a download - but there was a website where you saved your roster, and imported it and it converted everything into an appropiate format for Outlook - especially usefull to put onto your PDA. Anyone know where it is?

I think it was something like www.bode.com but obviously not. If anyone knows or knows of an alternative I would be grateful.:)

Caracul 29th March 2007 09:58

Ok, I've found it, but for its only for aircrew. If this applies to you, then its www.boldi.org (not far off!)

Here's a tip - I was poking around looking for a good Mac text editor, preferably free, to replace my beloved EditPad Pro (has both Windows and Linux versions) when I stumbled across Smultron - http://smultron.sourceforge.net/

Smultron is free (donations appreciated), fast and extremely versatile..

"....tabs, line numbers, support for syntax colouring for many different languages, functions list, support for text encodings, snippets, a toolbar, a status bar, preview, split window, multi-document find and replace with regular expressions, possibility to show invisible characters, authenticated open and saves, command-line utility, full screen editing and running commands and scripts from within the application."

Very very nice app indeed.

Cheers

A good video recorder (like FRAPS)

Hello,

Like FRAPS but freeware.... :)

http://taksi.sourceforge.net/

What it is:

Taksi is a utility that allows you to take screenshots and record video clips of your favourite games and other 3D-graphics applications. Inspired by Fraps (www.fraps.com), Taksi aims to provide an open source alternative to that great tool.

Other features:

Taksi can support live video compression with any VFW video codec your system has installed (i.e. XVid, DivX, MS Mpeg4, etc).

Supports user-specified key mapping, allowing user to assign almost any key to a particular function (such as video start/stop, screenshot trigger, etc.). Runtime re-mapping of the keys is supported via GUI: user can change keys without having to restart the game.

Custom video settings are supported (see manual.txt for more details about this).
Basically, this allows a user to specify on a per-game basis the frame rate of the captured video, and the weight of each source frame. The weight determines whether a particular frame is captured or not. This allows for creation of smoother and faster videos, when generic algorithm doesn't produce desired results.

Does anybody know of any free software to do this?

NuFile

Continuing my new-found love-affair with the Apple Mac, here's a neat little utility that filled a gap for me.

"NuFile(pronounced new-file (Nu is a greek letter)) is a contextual menu plugin. It adds a new file menu when you right click at a folder(ie: desktop or Finder background); just like what you can do in Windows. With this menu, you can create an empty file of your favourite type with just two clicks. It's a time saver especially if you have a two-button mouse...."

Get it from: http://growlichat.com/NuFile.php

Don't know if it's been brought up, and I 'm too bl**dy lazy to find out for myself, but ExifPro is a much-better-than-the-original variant of Adobe's CS3 Bridge.
It's free to use, but there's a somewhat annoying splash-screen at start-up, that goes away if you pay for a key. It's dirt cheap anyway, so I bought mine...

I love this program.
When you have 600-800 pics to go through, you learn to value those seconds won with every picture.

Free Spell check for OE

Normally spell checking is only available in OE if one has an office product installed. If you don't, this will enable (US English only) spell checking. Very easy install, works just like the real thing.
majorgeeks
The program was written by vampireinfo some time ago.
Probably shouldn't be used where you have a greyed-out spelling tab in OE>tools>options. That's another fix.

Another good free for personal use spell checker suitable for Internet explorer is iespell www.iespell.com. It shows up under tools in IE and is excellent for forum users who want to check their spelling before posting.

EXE file convertor for PDA - help

Not that long ago I had a handy little program that would convert simple Windows programs to run on a Pocket PC; I have lost the program and Google hasn't helped.

When I Google I get lots of media format convertors but none to convert an EXE file. The sort I want to convert are the ones that are fairly small and self-contained, they don't stuff DLLs everywhere.

Any clues?

Thanks.

Launchy

I just downloaded Launchy version 2 from http://www.launchy.net

What is it?

A free windows utility designed to remove the need for start menu, the icons on your desktop, and even file manager.

Simply press Alt+Spacebar to open the Launchy dialogue window and start typing. From program names to web browser searches you have previously performed it will guess what you want to open. 99.9% of the time it's right first time, too, and where it's unsure you will get a list to choose from.

I am told that Vista has something similar but I installed this on XP a few days ago and find it brilliant.

Note that so long as it's in your start menu (so it starts invisibly on XP startup) which it is by default, there is no need to add an icon to your Desktop or Quick Launch tray. This is why both of these options are switched off (unticked) by default when running the installation wizard. Simply let it start in the background (I have found no noticeable performance penalty) and then press Alt-Space when you want to use it.

A great utility.

Can't see any reference to this, so here we go.

For those using IE7, here's a nifty little thing that does various things as well as having a decent ad blocker and spell checker (ok, you have to "teach" it some things, but it's pretty simple to use).

Truecrypt

Truecrypt (TrueCrypt - Free Open-Source On-The-Fly Disk Encryption Software for Windows Vista/XP, Mac OS X and Linux) is now way faster on multiple-core machines. On Vista and Win2008, logical partitions as well as physical partitions can now be encrypted. Other assorted bells and whistles remain roughly the same.

Registry Cleaner

I spent hours trying to sort my son's laptop when it started to run EXTREMELY slowly.

Eventually, after a google, I was directed towards RegSupremePro which has a 30 day free trial.

One run of the prog sorted it. Don't know what the underlying problem was but it did the biz.

Yay!!! 26th February 2009 20:13

yeah ill try that cause my laptops running extremely slow too.

Tarq57 27th February 2009 00:14

Just make sure you make some kind of registry backup before you run it, or, if it has its own backup capability, use it.

Seagate Disc Wizard

http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/sup...ads/discwizard

Very useful free tool to clone or backup hard-disks - uses Acronis engine + works with other makes as long as you have at least on Seagate drive plugged into the system. Can backup to external drives and other removable media too. When restoring from backups you can pick and choose individual files or folders.

Used it last weekend to migrate complete C drive from 35gb disk to 80gb in under 60 minutes.
