A Sad Day for PPRuNe - Pop Up Adverts

Gents - please think again about putting these awful pop-ups on this revered site. And if your conscience doesn't run that far then please stop them popping back up every few seconds. It really is tacky

Alpha Leader 23rd May 2002 03:51

Intersting observation - but I'm not getting any of pop-ups on my screen. Anything to do with the server one uses to log in with?

JB007 23rd May 2002 03:51

But I guess it pays towards keeping it free for everyone...

PaddyOpants 23rd May 2002 04:05

Very Very annoying.... is their a way of getting rid of it..

Alpha Leader 23rd May 2002 04:13

OK, got it: these are not pop-up ads but banners and thus less intrusive.

I would agree that displaying an ad about an issue as contentious and intransparent as the IFALPA ban on CX (in one Fragrant Harbour thread there is a union member admitting he doesn't understand what the whole issue is about.....) is less than fortunate.

Bally Heck 23rd May 2002 04:14

I would like to inform the pop-up advertisers that the irritation these pop-ups cause me is such that I will go out of my way NOT to buy the product concerned.

I appreciate however the requirement to finance pPRuNE.

Sad Sad Day :(

LTN man 23rd May 2002 04:43

Keep getting a pop up for a mobile phone which keeps coming back no matter what I do. Really annoying.

Cpt. Underpants 23rd May 2002 04:58

FREE!!

Go here and look at POP-UP STOPPER ...it's free and it works.

Captain Underpants to the rescue!

packard merlin 23rd May 2002 05:02

i agree with bally heck, very annoying, avoid buying:mad:

bought to you by the new airbus 340-600

BEagle 23rd May 2002 05:16

I also keep getting a pop-up advert for a mobile phone or phone company - not sure which as I haven't bothered to read it. Nor will I ever read any pop-up adverts but will, in fact, make a conscious attempt not to buy anything shoved in front of my face in this manner. Please rethink this idea - the headline banners are one thing, these wretched pop-ups are something else!

coalface 23rd May 2002 05:23

MAYDAY.......MAYDAY........MADAY

AAAAAAARGH KILL KILL KILL KILL.

I HATE POP UPS........THEY INSTANTLY PUT ME OFF ANY PRODUCT THEY ARE TRYING TO PROMOTE AND ALSO THE SITE ITSELF.

GET RID....GET RID......GET RID.

WORSE THAN DOOR TO DOOR SALESMEN.

KILL.......KILL....KILL

coalface 23rd May 2002 05:32

Cancel mayday......cancel mayday.

I have just installed Pop-up Stopper.

Thank you to Cpt Underpants for saving my life.

Cpt. Underpants 23rd May 2002 06:17

You're welcome. Now only if I could get rid of another virus (411A) just as easily...

Capt PPRuNe 23rd May 2002 06:17

Errr... I do not allow pop-adverts on PPRuNe!

Are you sure it is from the PPRuNe web page that you are getting them? Are you using AOL or one of the 'nanny' ISP's to log on with? They sometimes force you to keep one of their windows open and who knows what they do in the background.

I use one advertising company for some banners but I definitely do not allow them to submit pop-ups. I detest pop-ups as much as the next person. I have never seen a pop-up ad whilst using PPRuNe and it would appear that only some of you are getting them which leads me to suspect that it is some other window you have open (although possibly reduced in size) that is causing you the grief.

Investigation continues.

deconehead 23rd May 2002 06:22

Whooooooeeeeeeeeeeeee, well done Cpt. Underpants, no more pain with mobile phone or any other pop ups. Pop ups, your days are numbered:D

I am using AOL and once I logged out and back in again the damn thing came back to haunt me - Doh!

Evo7 23rd May 2002 06:36

Danny, it's definitely a PPRuNe-related O2 (mobile phone) popup. Keeps appearing all the time :( :(

(I only have one IE window open - and I'm not connecting through an ISP)

DeepC 23rd May 2002 06:47

So annoying!

Logged on yesterday - no problems
Logged on this morning. Same connection etc. - pop-ups appearing constantly.

The pop up window is titled www.pprune........thread=id....or forum=id..

In other words it is using the web page URL from PPRuNe.

Definetely a problem with PPRuNe.

Patagonia 23rd May 2002 06:50

Pop-ups from O2 still def here this AM - I can hear my Pop-Up Stopper as previously recommended stomping away on them.

It's great!
:D

Fly747 23rd May 2002 06:51

For your info Capt I too am getting the same mobile phone pop-up (O2). First time ever on pprune, must be something to do with your site as we all seem to be getting the same.

eyeinthesky 23rd May 2002 07:06

Me too. And I'm fed up of being told that someone is cutting their toenails!!
