iPlayer download problem

I've installed the latest iPlayer desktop and downloaded a programme but it won't run.

The file downloaded as mp4 and also brought an xml file with it (?!). When I double click on the file, VLC player starts and shows the file as running, but no picture, no sound, and the progress bar doesn't move.

Any ideas?

don't you have to view it in iplayer?

sorry just re-read that you already downloaded the latest iplayer!

Could be corrupt delete it and try again.
