Pprune opens to full-page ad

Recently, when I open Pprune, then click on, say Rumours and News, the page opens to a full-page ad - usually for pilot's courses. This only happens when I open up first thing in the morning. I'm using Chrome, but I'll try another browser tomorrow and see if the problem is replicated. Anyone else had this?

ZFT 18th Jun 2013 06:34

Yep same issue but using Pale Moon

ImageGear 18th Jun 2013 06:45

Same on IE 10

It appears that the PPRUNE.ORG URL is being hi-jacked or someone is paying a lot of money to ensure each login gets one pushed at them. (Opens in new window)

I do not think it is a browser problem - it maybe that the PPRUNE Server is compromised, but I think the latter more possible.

Odd, that happened to me now and in my early morning torpor I thought I'd somehow clicked on the wrong bit. Clearly not. (W8/FF21).

Newforest2 18th Jun 2013 07:03

Me ditto with AOL. Maybe I.B. are selling this space?

BOAC 18th Jun 2013 07:12

Ditto (just occasionally) in Firefox.

Yep same again but using Pale Moon

Sunnyjohn 18th Jun 2013 08:31

Thanks BOAC but pleased to see I got in first (this thread was started at 8.29!)

BOAC 18th Jun 2013 09:45

Indeed! The intent of the post was to 'alert' the mods that the issue was a little more wide-spread (we all need a lert, don't we....?)

The late XV105 18th Jun 2013 10:01

Yup - the same here on the latest production release of Chrome. Ad Block Plus and other measures mean I normally don't see a single advert on any website.

Edit: Hosts file updated to the latest version from MVPS and sanity has returned. The ad appears to be banished.

Likewise, with FF and Adblock.

BOAC 18th Jun 2013 11:31

Defo NOT just first visit with browser, but appears to be first visit after boot. For those not following JB, it has been reported to Fisher Price House.

farsouth 18th Jun 2013 11:36

Same with me - started yesterday, just happening once, but this morning it comes up each time I enter my username AND each time I enter my password

Sunnyjohn 18th Jun 2013 15:34

we all need a lert, don't we....?
'Tis true - I keep a couple of lerts with my round tuits.

Saab Dastard 18th Jun 2013 16:34

As BOAC has mentioned, this has been raised to admins.

Count me in

Typically it's something on my end.

Glad to hear somebody else has been hacked for a change :)

TURIN 19th Jun 2013 09:19

Well it got bloody annoying this morning. Every click on a post brought the ad page up, until I signed in.

lomapaseo 19th Jun 2013 12:56

Still here today. Every new thread causes the problem until I close PPRune and log back in. My full page ad usually is for Jobs offers.

BOAC 19th Jun 2013 14:32

Nil today on mine.
