iPad Mini Bluetooth connectivity to iPhone 4S

I've been given a WI-FI only iPad mini for my birthday and I'd assumed (apparently foolishly) that I could use Bluetooth to link to my iPhone 4S to get GPS data to drive SkyDemon.

It now appears that they will not Bluetooth link and when I try to do it they don't even see the same devices.

A secondary problem is that my wife's iPhone 4 will Bluetooth to my Merc but won't connect to her Lexus and the reverse is true of my iPhone 4S

Can somebody help me out here or is it impossible to link the mini and the phone as my delight at the connectivity of Apple products is disappearing rapidly?

You need to moan at the car manufacturers about this, nothing to do with Apple.

Never tried to get a connection for the gps thingy, however i could link my ipad to my iphone to use the phones dataconnection. Worked only once i switched on the personal hotspot thing on my iphone though, before that they couldn't see each other. First switched on the hotsport on my iphone, switched on bluetooth, then went to my ipad and the bluetooth settings, switched it on and once it saw the iphone i could pair them.

Clever me has managed to wipe my Skype password off my OS 10.6.8 MacBook Pro. I didn't do anything different than normal, whereby it starts up with the my username and password already filled in and voila! it works with it's usual Skype noise. However now both boxes are empty, although my username is available in the drop down menu on the start box. I've tried to have a mooch around the keychains with no real success and Skype's help page is unhelpful as it was some years ago that I logged in and the email address is unknown, at least to the conscious part of my mind :8 Any ideas chaps ?

Trash Skype then download it again and give yourself a new username and password.

You could try a search of your mail for "skype"......

SpringHeeledJack 24th Apr 2013 14:17

Thanks gents, I've searched all the possible email accounts and Skype only comes up twice, though not to do with logging in and passwords. When I typed the various email addresses into the Skype new password generator, it simply says no! :hmm: I have managed to sign in on an old laptop where the password is automatically written (but security screened). I thought that I might be able to 'see' the password by playing around with the Skype preferences, but no luck so far.

If I deleted the Skype on my newer laptop and transferred over the one from the older laptop would the login information remain intact and solve my problem perhaps ? I'd hate to have to set up a new account unless it seems all avenues are closed.

It should do. That's exactly what I did when I bought my second Mac and it has worked fine.

Chrome for IOS not 'remembering' me.

I log into pprune on a variety of computers via Chrome and even IE, and my login is always remembered. Except when I log in via Chrome on my iPad - I have to re-log in every time. There must be a simple setting change to avoid this?

iPad won't connect

Just arrived in Tenerife with the Missus and our two iPads. Both similarly configured but I've managed to log on painlessly to the free hotel wifi and connect to e-mail, Internet etc. wife's iPad is connected to wireless but won't connect any further. Mail won't update, web page says "server not responding". I did find 'my iPad' to see if hers was visible to the network but it says the iPad not active. Any thoughts as to what is wrong much appreciated.

mixture 28th Apr 2013 09:45

I would stop responding too if I found myself in Tenerife. :E

Can she browse the internet ? Is it only her email causing problems ?

CapErosaM 28th Apr 2013 10:26

Select the Wifi network and then go to "Renew Lease"
If that doesn't work select "Forget Network" and try again.

That may solve the problem, hopefully.

Finbarr 28th Apr 2013 10:38

That doesn't solve the problem - I don't like or use Safari!

Thanks everyone. I'm now hero for fixing wife's iPad!::D

A lot of hotel wifi systems restrict wifi connections using the same login details to one device only.

When I say "same login details" I mean the username/password you were given at reception then have to enter (irritatingly) prior to every internet session.

Have you managed to connect to the wifi using any other device? Does the hotel require you to enter username/password on connection?

Just a thought.

Personal Hotspot

I use an ethernet to connect to my Macbook Pro (late 2011 OSX 10.8.2) and then use internet sharing to create a WiFi hotspot for my other devices (iPad and an Android phone).

Took me a while to get it working, and then I pulled out my ethernet cable to move about and put it back in. Since then my hotspot won't work. I've tried creating a new one with different passwords and name but no luck.

Basically, the devices that connect to it always report an "excellent" signal, and so it should as these devices are no more than a couple of inches from the Macbook. However, since pulling out the cable it reports "excellent" but the second I ask the device to connect to the hotspot it changes to "poor" and no device can connect to it. It attempts to, first it states "connecting..." then literally a second later "click to connect" (as if it has no idea I asked it to connect) then back to "connecting..." and this is a constant cycle.

All devices including Macbook restarted many times, all routers and access points have been restarted, I've restored default network settings on all 3 devices and still no luck.

Really baffles me how it reports a poor signal despite being right next to the hotspot. I was thinking the main reason it can't connect is maybe it can't issue an IP address to the devices, assuming the fact the poor signal is just spurious. Any ideas?

Try updating the firmware. Had same issue with a tp-link hotspot. I bought 2x of these hotspots. Only 1 required the firmware update

If you are using Safari won't you find your password under Safari --> Preferences --> Passwords?

Only if you have saved it in Safari Passwords. . .I don't use that preference, as I have a password manager : https://agilebits.com/onepassword
