Intermittent DVD ROM Failure?
Hi chaps - I've recently started suffering regular failure with the DVD ROM on my Fujitsu Siemens Laptop. Running XP home - explorer sees the drive but when I insert a disc it all too frequently comes up with the error "windows cannot read this media - the disc may be corrupt etc etc........"
The drive light comes on, whirrs a bit (but slowly and briefly) and then gives up the ghost! After maybe ten attempts with the same disc it finally kicks in (well mostly anyhow):hmm: Any ideas forumites? Thanx |
Sounds like a dodgy drive (assuming it happens with various DVDs - not just with a single dodgy DVD?).
Have you tried cleaning the laser lens with a commercially available cleaning kit? Generally consists of squirting some liquid onto a special DVD shaped thing (sorry to be so technical :E) and pressing Play! RC |
