Blaster worm??
Blaster worm??
Oh dear, just tried me nephews puter nexr door, looks like he has this Blaster thingy, he is running windows XP, the machine keeps flagging up sHut down messages and shutting down which I understand is a sympton of this visus or worm or whatever it is.
Tried it yesterday and there was a warning from microsoft and what to do re this, tried to print it out but his printer is out of ink.
I am totaly unfamilier with XP, I cant even find the internet options or control panel.
Any website with info on this?does xp allow one to make a clean boot disk like win98?is there some way of disinfecting the machine?
The prob is my nephew is away on holiday at the mo so I have no idea what antivirus software he has on the machine.

Drapes,
There is a thread all about this a bit further down (RPC something or other).
Think all you need to know should be in there.

(One of my ISP's mailed me with loads of helpful stuff about it.. PM me with your e-mail address and I'll forward it on to you).

Thanks timmcat, but I have found a whole raft of info on the windows update site.
When I first booted the machine yesterday as I said microsoft had stuck a page of info on the dektop, but that has disapeared and I cannot get it back.
The only thing I know about XP is I do not like it, it seems to take forever to boot up or shut down and it is always accessing his hard disc, I will stick with 98 .
The main prob I have is that he will blame me for this virus.

tony draper,
That computer is not configured correctly and might be short on RAM. That would explain the lagging performance. With WinXP you really want to use 512Mb of RAM.
If you are still having problems getting MSBlaster out of that computer, hit CTRL+ALT+DEL and go in to the Task Manager. In there look for MSBlast.exe and hit End Process.
That will stop the countdown and let you remove the worm from the computer.
Take Care,
Richard

Oh he has plenty ram,I know why it takes so long, its a store bought system, and it is loading just about everything it possibly can at boot up, I have tried to tell him to edit the start up but he is paranoid about the machine. Will try the Ctr Alt Del thing you suggest, I have plenty info now, our ISP has the fix on its home page .
Thanks for the help peeps
