DVD Playback issue (again!)

Chaps, I really need to borrow your brainpower on this one. I have put an ATAPI 16x dvd rom in my new pc. I have set it to slave mode on the jumpers, so that the existing cd-rom drive is the master.

The new pc is a 2400 athlon 80g hdd running win xp home & has an nvidia graphics card. I have upgraded xp to service pack 1, dx 9.0 & a few other fixes such as cyberdrive power dvd 3.0 patch. But, I just cannot get the pc to recognise a dvd disk in the dvd rom drive. It recognises cd-rom's no problem, but will only say please insert a disc when I place a dvd in the tray.

What can this be?

The original cyberdrive installation disk was a dos affair. When I try to install it, it gives an error message that says mscdex.exe is a must for this installation, please type the location of this file for the install to proceed. Mscdex.exe doesn't exist on either of my systems, including the one on which the dvd rom worked perfectly! However, they both have mscdex.cnt, but this doesn't help.

I am at a loss to fix this - the ATAPI website just says if your dvd doesn't work, it's defective, take it back to where you got it.

I need ideas guys. Thanks.

Cool

Try it as the master on the ide channel.

Make sure for dvd playback it is set as the default drive.

Check your region settings, the drive may be different to that in windows.
