when I shut down......

sometimes when I click start, shut down and then go to shut down, the pooter makes sqealing noises and then nothing can stop it except thepower button on the front.....what's happening anyone?

What operating system are you using, it might give us somewhere to start!

WIN 98SE, IE6, all the patches etc.....

This is a known problem in windows 98 the link will take you to Microsofts solution (or one of them) usually its win 98 itself which is preventing the machine shutting down
