Explorer corruption?

Can anyone help? When I try and select pprune on the explorer drop down menu, or even type it in manually, after clicking enter I am redirected to some other site- digimedia.com and cannot, no matter what, get to pprune. I just keep getting hijacked to this digimedia page. Obviously some sort of corruption has occurred. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of it?

Do you use a dial-up connection?
If so, do you use a modem-booster/accelerator?
If so, these boosters are software packages which store the internet address in numericals, not in letters.
Give it a go and let it update.

My feeling is that you've clicked on something in Explorer, which has now staying in memory every time you boot. Shouldn't visit theese dodgy sites eh?

Do you know how to check in all the various places for automatic startup entries, i.e. start menu, registry, windows .ini files etc?

I have searched the entire computer for anything to do with digimedia, to no avail.
I have blocked and erased the cookies from digimedia, and that seems to have stopped it.

It's back!

I now can't find any digimedia cookies, and if I try and go to pprune with explorer, it immediately hijacks me the digimedia site. Very frustrating!! Netscape isn't affected, but is a pain to use.
I have run ad-aware, no result.

Any ideas?

Suggest deleting all cookies - or at least the PPRuNe ones. Bit of a pain for those sites where you auto-login but, after all, that's exactly what's gone wrong.

There may be an innocuous looking cookie that is re-directing you to the site you don't want.

Spybot, better than ad-aware.

spywareblaster stops stuff ever getting in.

kaspersky proper anti-virus software.

Digimedia itself is not listed in spywareblasters bases, but it might be planted by something else. 'Internet cleanup' or 'winnow cleaner 3', will erase all cookies, the latter will clear the index.dat file too. It is a freebie on the .NET magazine in the uk this month.

Check your firewall effectiveness here at GRC.com using the shields up test.

ferris,

Run Trend Micro's HouseCall followed by LavaSoft's Ad-Aware

There is some Malware on your computer, and I would like to see if we can identify it.

Take Care,

Richard
