New Broadband

Hello Everyone

I have just changed to a new Broadband supplier, from BT to a local company who set it all up in the last few days.
All items except one have joined the WiFi without trouble, but an iPad refuses to do so. Despite trying many times I get a message that the password is incorrect. I have tried forgetting the network, then trying again, but to no avail.

Oh, iPad mini from some years ago, on software 12.5.7, which for that iPad is the most up to date available.

Thanks

Make the iPad 'Forget this Network' from the Settings=> Wifi=> (choose info on your network)

Then reboot the iPad, and then retry

Hi GrahamO

Looked at what you advised, thanks. I am not on any wifi, nor at the moment able to get connected to one. I tried your suggestion, but when I select the wifi I wsh to forget, there is no option to 'Forget' just 'Join.' I have tried the 'i' in a circle info but there is no option there. Any more ideas?

Thanks

How about deleting the cache. Ccleaner is useful for clearing cookies etc. Free, as well.

Thanks; have cleared much out before, without luck.

Went to a friend this morning, and connected to his wi-fi without any problem.

Have checked that the password is correct, just in case, but no error with that.

I am stuck!

Just guessing: Your older iPad only supports 2.4ghz WiFi, and your new router is set to use 5Ghz only?
Solution: Most routers are backward compatible. The relevant manuals will direct you in the right direction, now you know what to look for.

Thirsty - good thought, but I'm not convinced the iPad would get as far as trying to input a password for the wifi network if it wasn't able to access it at all due to wrong frequency, as it simply wouldn't be aware of it.

Suggestion from Apple support:
If you're using iOS or iPadOS 14 or earlier, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you've used before.

Anything that uses iOS 12.5.7 will have dual band wifi. iPad Mini 2 & 3 & iPad Air are the only iPads limited to 12.5.7 & all can use 802.11g dual band wifi.

Hi Ghenna. Had a similar problem yesterday setting up a new fibre modem. Different companies call the same item different names. One of ours was asking for a "password" when it actually wanted the WLAN key. Is there a printed label on the modem with Password, SSID and Wlan Key listed. Try the WLAN key, that could be the solution. Good luck!

You might double check your router's settings and make sure it isn't set up to require WPA3 encryption. If your device is too old, it won't support WPA3, so if your router doesn't allow WPA2, it won't allow those older devices to connect.

I had a similar issue not long ago with a new router. Had to switch the 5Ghz WiFi band off before one gadget would connect.
Switch it back on once connected. No problems since.

Hi All

Thank you to each of you for your advice and comments; much appreciated.

Strangely, I managed to get connected yesterday by some fluke (as I did nothing in particular) but this morning I was again asked for the password, which was then rejected!

I'll look into the latter suggestions, thanks.

I would separate the 2.4ghz from the 5Ghz. Also some devices struggle with OFDMA and MU-MIMO, Also allow mixed WPA with newer WPA3 incase the device cannot connect with WPA3.

Thanks Lawk. The providers were here and separated the 2 bands, and the iPad worked fine. Providers then decied to merge again - no idea as to why, and so iPad back to not able to join.

Also discovered that wifi printer will not get onto wifi, so as second best have had no choice but to hard-wire, which is not ideal. That comes from changing from a provider where all worked fine, but not too fast, to one with fast fibre! Oh well ...........

Thanks again to all who have tried to help me resolve this matter; really appreciate your efforts.

I simply gave up with my printer's wi-fi, (after hours of frustration) and like you, hard wired it. I still have no idea why it would not work.
At about the same time, it decided that it did not like scanning. It will now only scan using windows fax and scan............So it has to work off the desk top, and will not speak to Apple devices.
I can't get rid of the printer as it still accepts non-branded inks!!

We struggled for some time with a new HP laser printer but eventually got it connected by wireless - and Senora A is a Network Engineer

Its rubbish at scanning so we've kept the old Epson inkjet for that

Thanks to all who gave help.

The local internet company I have been trying to deal with have been a nightmare. I told them from the outset that my home had concrete floors and walls due to being real old, and they said that would not be a problem. Truth was that they could not resolve coverage without boosters all over, so I have let them go. Back to BT which with 4 discs gives me full cover, but of course not as fast.

Oh well, you live and learn.

Thanks again !!
