SCART to HDMI leads question

Evening,

Friend needs to connect an old DVD player to her Smart telly - looking at SCART/HDMI leads on Amazon and bit confoosed by all the options, most of which seem to have a box of tricks midway which needs a power lead. One or two are simple SCART at one end, HDMI at t'other - the sales pitch is meaningless to me so...

Any advice or recommendations please?

You need a SCART to HDMI converter, which requires a USB power supply. Some of the ads don't mention the power lead, but the converter won't work without one. Get a mains adapter which includes a USB socket and plug the power lead into that, as well as the DVD player power supply.

Something like this:

Amazon Amazon

Last year I bought a similar system for 3xRCA (red, white yellow) to HDMI to connect a DVD player to a HDMI-only TV and it works just fine.

Make sure you get SCART to HDMI rather than HDMI to SCART. They're not generally reversible.

...and don't expect a particularly good picture.

Pleased to say I'm happy with my recently bought HDMI/RCA adaptor from Amazon which I use to connect our TV to a bird box camera.
As others have said, it will have a USB power cable.
so you'll need a USB power supply plugged in near the adaptor.

Thanks Blues & Twos, got one yesterday with an instruction manual that was totally different to the kit, no AC connection but a handy USB lead - my friend is joining me for coffee shortly so hopefully see how she got on...

I was to say, easier (and probably cheaper, especially if getting a normal non ‘blu-ray’ DVD player) just to replace the player. I don’t throw things out to get the latest thing, but there comes a time… I finally replaced my old DVD player when I realised the film I was watching wasn’t supposed look so dark.

Must admit I wondered about that, but most of the cheaper ones seem to be what i tebd to think of as "tat" made by companies I have never heard of... converted all my DVDs to MP4 on a USB HD but having some issues doing the latest one I bought. See how my friend does with the lead I got her...
