Gmail app on PC stopped working after firefox removed

My wife has been having issues with her Win10 laptop getting slower and slower for some time. It may have been worsened by a software upgrade forced upon her before christmas. Since then she has been seeing messages about too many processes slowing the machine when only Firefox with two tabs open has been running. I saw something on here about someone having a similar issue which they resolved by re-installing Firefox. So I suggested this to her a long time ago and she took until it became unworkable before she finally got around to making sure she can find all of the passwords that are auto inserted by the machine in case they become lost in the process. Then I installed Brave and checked it was working and then I un-installed Firefox, completely. Brave picked up most of the passwords and most things seemed to be working. Much more quickly.

Except Gmail. I don't use gmail so having a gmail icon in the in the task bar seems odd to me. I have used gmail via a website in the past. Anyway, the current state is that the gmail icon appears to open Gmail, the expected webpage appears but no emails have come in and any emails sent out don't show in the sent mail and we suspect that they don't actually go, the webpage just goes through the motions but an error box opens and says that settings need updating.

I don't know where to go from here... I could remove the icon from the task bar but I don't want to risk losing any of the mail history.....

Thanks,

I'm not aware of a gmail app for a PC.

Petty sure you have to access via a web page, in which case you won't be in an danger of loosing anything, provided you remember the user name as and password.

I'd just strike up a different browser and log in with that.

Most PCs running with 8Gb of RAM will start to struggle with a few browser windows open, multiple tabs and a few other apps running. I suggest you upgrade to 16Gb RAM. A site called crucial will tell you if you can and what chips you need and sell them to you.
As the other reply says, Gmail is accessed from a browser window, just go to Google.com and click the Gmail button and sign in with your user name and password.
