Samsung Phone browser tabs crashing

My wife is struggling to access the internet via the Samsung Internet browser on her phone. All of her tabs crash after a min as they fail to refresh upon opening. The issue seems to be just with the browser, WhatsApp messages are still coming in and it makes no difference whether trying to use the phone network or use the home wireless broad band connection. I have been into her browser settings and cleared data and cache, stopped the browser and rebooted the phone and it still doesn't want to play.

Phone is a J3 or J4, I forget which. It reports all updates done, last update is some months ago and it was all good until a few days ago.

What else might need tweaking?

Thanks

Rans6,

ps I went to the playstore and tried to install a different browser. It accessed the store apparently OK and appeared to download Brave but it failed to install it, no error was flagged up, it just got to the end of getting it and then stopped.

It may be a resource problem. Go to Settings, Battery and Device Care, then check storage and memory. You can use the Optimise now option to see what it clears up. If Memory is tight then click on it to see what is using it. Use Clean now option. If storage is short then look to delete apps or move them to an SD card. Most J3/J4 support SD cards. Good luck.

I guess the browser requires quite a lot of memory space to work, any idea how much?

How long is a piece of string? It will vary depending on the number of tabs open and the browser you are using. If you are using Samsung browser then I think you will need at least 200mb plus about 50mb per tab, but this is largely guesswork on my part. I usually see about 350mb for this browser with 3-4 tabs open.
