Phone calls turn my on my PC

I am using Windows XP and shut down using the "Start" button.
The computer turns off OK. If the 'phone rings, however, the computer powers up. How can I disable this?

Your motherboard probably supports "wake on ring" as well as "wake on LAN".

Go into the BIOS and turn it off.

I have an old PII and this works for me.

Presuming you're using a modem and dialup ...

Go into your BIOS power saving settings and disable the activity monitoring on whichever port your modem is connected to.
