Twitter Links

OK, I’ve got my knuckles rapped because I’m not using the correct link format when posting Twitter links..

Im using the Twitter App on an iPad and pasting into Safari.

In Twitter the options I have to share a tweet are “Copy Link” - which I am using - or “Share via” which gives me the option of opening in Safari, email etc.

I use the “Copy Link” and nothing shows till I refresh then the tweet appears.

What am I doing wrong, and how can I post so that others don’t see a blank page - and I don’t get in any more trouble?

I’ve deleted the https:// at the start and also the suffix e..g s=21, but it still seems to do the same thing.

Also tried putting it inside inverted commas, still doesn’t show till I refresh.

I’ve installed Chrome and get the same share options and same result. Tried the open in Safari and Chrome and copy and paste and get the same link text.

Any help appreciated.

Example link below with hyphens inserted at various points to stop it appearing as a tweet.

Thank you for your kind attention to this recurring annoyance, ORAC. I am one of many who enjoy your posts and any actions you take to make them more accessible is appreciated. Would not a simple cut and paste of Twitter prose succeed?

I will post your URL here absent the dashes. Nothing else done. Just the URL. We will see what happens.

Initially the twitter link did not appear but after a few minutes, it did.

I'd guess this is a phenomenon related to the fact that the tweet is on a different server far far away. In essence it is not on the pprune message but it has to be loaded and created as visual element on every readers screen separately from that separate server.
I am having the same delay in my mobile when on mobile connection, but almost no delay when on PC with much faster connection at home.

I guess the big question here is: 'How do you want the Twitter link to appear?' Just posting the link (without the hyphens) shows a single Twitter post as shown above in JimJim1's post, but if you don't want that.... you will have to resort to strange tactics as the board's software is very good at 'deciphering' various links.

Use the quote function and post the link in that, it will show.

This method is an absolute PITA for everyone and for moderation: following every one of your hyperlinks to another tab instead of just reading it within your post is time consuming and unnecessary. Just hyperlink it and, as already explained, it will appear.

I tried to send a message to last PM, sadly this does not work on all Browsers, and I am not the only one who have said they cannot see them, I cannot see them on this current PC nor one of mine at home, I do add a Precis of what the link refers too, the site has been screwed since the new software, you can no longer post photos links from the likes of Flickr without getting double images, an example..

It's because of a mismatch between Flickr's forum sharing format and the site's 'smart' software. You are using 'BBCode' format which is aimed at rather simple forums that are not able to parse links. If you use the link from the 'Share' option and just copy this into your post without any additional tags, it will turn up as a single image:

I used this option:

The long story:
The 'BBCode' format includes several links. One to show the image between IMG tags and two others to enable someone to go to the same image on Flickr, between URL tags. On a less smart forum board these will be processed as the HTML code that they are and will show up as an image you can click on and a link underneath it. The VBulletin software that PPRuNe uses sees at least two of these as links to Flickr and automatically 'adjusts' these as shown in your post above.
url=https://-flic.-kr/p/uBfPC2 img https://-live.-staticflickr.com/3809...bda00b74_c.jpg /img /url url=https://-flic.-kr/p/uBfPC2 DSC_1018 /url by url=https://-www.-flickr.com/photos/102686263@N02/ Jelle Hieminga /url , on Flickr
I have removed all the square brackets in the code snippet above and have added some hyphens to prevent these being processes as links. The three links in the code are in bold font.
