Registry Problems
All of a sudden this machine has started giving the following:
On start up it loads through to the last moment then I get
"Windows encountered an error accessing the system registry. Windows will restart and repair the system registry for you"
after which it restarts and comes up with a DOS page and the text
"Windows found an error in your system files and restored a recent backup of the files to fix the problem"
it then restarts and runs normally until I restart the machine next time when it goes throughthe same rigmarole.
Has anyone any bright ideas how to fix this, I've tried a full surface scan/repair and defrag, to no avail.
Glad of any advice.
Windows 98, NAV 2000 + updates, nothing new installed recently. My other hard disk ( I have a removable disk ) works fine.

Thanks ORAC.
I had a 6mb system.dat, 900kb user.dat (the two files that make the registry). I did what MS said in the link you provided and my registry has been considerably cleaned and consolidated. File sizes are now 5mb and 800kb. Doesn't seem much of a change, but the machine is measurably quicker.
Cheers
