How do I get rid of the black screen that has appeared on Windows 10
For a few months now a black screen offering Search, etc. keeps appearing on my Windows 10 computer. It is obviously a Microsoft "improvement".
How do I get rid of it ?

Can you post a screenshot? A few options:
See if it's in start-up programs and disable it
In add/remove programs > windows features> see if it's in there and can be disabled
Check it's not malware by running Malwarebytes Free

Perhaps it is time to check your HDD for errors :https://computing.which.co.uk/hc/en-...r-a-hard-drive

You wont be able to uncheck it but you could try selecting one of the other options and then selecting hidden again just in case it has got out of sync with the settings.
In addition to SignalSquare's suggestion you may also try running sfc /scannow as described here

Might just be an intermittently duff keyboard - Windows key and S brings up search, if one of those is sticking and you hit the other one?
Try donwloading the free version of Malwarebytes and run a scan, extra protection from nasties, however something like the above sounds more likely.

Solved. The problem arose with a Windows update to the touchpad driver.
After much going round in circles resolved by disabling three-finger scrolling in the driver.
