Multitasking operating systems

Does anyone have any information relating to multitasking on the latest Android tablet operating systems? I want a new tablet, to replace a Samsung Tab S 8.4 which has become a bit slow and prone to crashing. Typically I want to be able to listen to listen again radio or Youtube video soundtracks in one browser tab and then open a new tab full screen in front of it and do other stuff like Pprune or BBC news. I want the soundtr5ack to carry on playing. My Linux Mint machines can handle this with ease but, even when it was working well, the Tab S could not. I have not tried this on a PC but I expect it would handle the tasks just fine.

I have been contemplating a Samsung Tab S6 or S7 but may be tempted by an S5 in the Black Friday sales.

Thanks,

Did the old Samsung manage multitasking satisfactorily in the past?

If so, an alternative to buying new is to re install the Android operation system which will restore "as new" performance. There's plenty of tutorials on Youtube, and though a little daunting at first turns out to be easy enough as long as you follow the steps carefully.

Huawei Mediapad T3, (Model KOB L09, 16GB store + SD card) seems able to run a recorded song and play bbc news live as well as holding onto the novel I'm reading.
Only constraint is that it only just holds the apps I want it to. 16 GB obviously low.

You'll need a paid version of the YouTube app it you want it to carry on playing in the background. There are currently free trials available (as a bloody annoying pop-up advert reminds me every time I try to use it!)

Personally I'd look at rooting the current tablet and installing an up to date version of Android before I bought new hardware. You're current one will be more than powerful enough

I feel this needs a bit more emphasis.

"Youtube video soundtracks in one browser tab and then open a new tab"

Your Android has a multi tasking OS - it's Linux. The Youtube limitation you mention is MARKETING. Google have chosen that you must pay to get that facility.

Much material on YT is also on other "podcast" platforms. After trying a few I use the Apple one via a browser. Still many annoyances but no login required, auto plays (but ONLY newest first - grrrrrrrr).

Maybe have a look at an alternative app that avoids the YTube limitation.

https://filmora.wondershare.com/yout...ernatives.html

I would not use an app that didn't come from the Play Store (or apple equivalent).

I am still a bit unsure, is it the android web browser that stops YT videos playing when tabs are swapped to the front? I don't use the YT app, I prefer to view videos in a browser so I get the same look, feel, functionality as I get on my Linux Mint desktop machine. I use Firefox on my desktop machines.

It is the youtube web site.

Youtube have decided to make it that the sound won't play unless the page is visible.

You can pay youtube and they will fix it.

You can try one of the apps mentioned above.
