The new Gmail

Is anybody else having the problems I am having with Gmail?

They changed the format about a month ago. The old one was fine; I had been using it since Gmail first started but this one's a mess. It's slow to load, pages dropping out and it keeps losing contact wit itself. Transferring an email to a folder is a nightmare and it could end up in any the folder or the bin. If I had downloaded it as a program I would toss it out immediately but I have to use it.

Any ideas?

Works flawlessly here. If new stuff is causing angst just press the 'Load basic HTML' link at the bottom right of the initial page.

The HTML is fast but I have never had to use that before. I am running at 27 mb/sec so it's not a slow connection. It has only happened after they changed the format.

Flawless here too, both on my home connection (whizzy fast), in a hotel the other day (slow connection), and on all four other computers at home.
Suggests something might be akilter locally; you might have done so already but I'd start with trying a different browser, purging internet history, disabling add-ons (if any are enabled), trying a different computer on your network. Basic stuff like this.

Good luck.

I'm with FareastDriver. They made the change, which really offers me not a single new benefit of note, yet is slower and glitchier.

Mee Too!

Worst Google tinker since the mad mad mad Marissa-Mayer-Purest-Blank google home page fiasco[1][2]. So Blank that nothing was displayed on it - except the search box. If you wanted say maps or news you had to wait until the delay timer delayed and then the relevant links slowly hove into view. The final insult, the links did not accept clicks until they were eventually fully rendered. Lasted a sad few months.

I spent weeks 'n' weeks and much tinkering wondering WTF was wrong with my computer before I found out that the delay and fade-in was by DESIGN. Who designs delays into machines? Start the car, no no no no no, you can't go anywhere until you have had time to admire the dashboard, the beautiful carpets, the finest rubber mats. EVERY TIME.

In Google's case you were supposed to admire the Holy Blankness.

She soon left and was CEO of Yahoo for 5 years.

I think that the problem is that the software world is full of teenage tinkerers who are sure that we all love reading the manuals to discover where they hid our most favoured features. Trouble is that now there are no manuals.

[/RANT] :-)

Perhaps you are running out of some resource on your computer.

4GB seems pretty marginal with windows now.

Very annoyingly everyone has been encouraged to waste memory by using the 64 bit image and apps if the machine supports it even if the memory is quite low.

The Official Line is that everything is super efficient and memory consumption is not affected. I did a bit of programming years and years ago and this seemed unlikely to me. This was recently confirmed here -

https://www.digitalcitizen.life/goog...nce-comparison

"When we used the 64-bit version, Google Chrome ate a whopping 1.19 GB of RAM memory to load all the tabs we enumerated above.

When we used its 32-bit version, Google Chrome needed only 634 MB of RAM memory to load all those tabs."

Good luck anyway.

More reports on 64v32 RAM.

Apparently "less" is "more" but why does that "less" take longer to load than before?
Seems to be the in thing, even Outlook suffers from this weird fad.
Lots of new UI paradigms floating around at the moment, latest one is called UCD (or user centred design) where developers survey a large number of users on how things should look until they get the results they want to hear. The end result can be called lipstick on a pig.

Haven't noticed a change recently but I did have one about 6 months ago and I don't like it, but no problems with loading etc.
What pees me off is the fact the netbook I use has Win 10 but I never use it, always use Chrome, but I can't get into Chrome until Win 10 stops downloading updates.
Yes I have registerd Chrome as my main browser but it still gives Win 10 priority.
