Capacity oddity?
Secondary disk on an HP xw-4000 workstation Win7 64 bit shows no free space out of available 1.3 Tb. Totalling visible file sizes gives 110Gbs. Can anyone suggest where the missing Tb+ has gone????

And you did look for any hidden files in the first place ? How do I view hidden files in Windows?

Many thanks, PDR1 and DIBO. Just completed CHKDSK and no problems found although the used and available totals don't make sense. The disk is not encrypted. Making the hidden files visible didn't show anything useful. I am confused ... state normal!! I think that a format may well be the solution - if I can transfer the essential files first!

WinDirStat is a nice tool for looking at disk usage.

Post some hard info such as screen shots or output from commands.

It is easy to copy text from a command window - google will no doubt tell you how:-)

A side effect of a disk defragmenter is that it will display true disk usage. Nothing gets hidden. I have used MyDefrag. Just choose analyse.

You don't need any third party utilities.
In Win7:
Start --> Control Panel --> System & Security --> Create & format hard disk partitions
This will bring up Disk Management (you must be logged in as an administrator) and you will be able to see how your disk is partitioned.

Again, thank you for those inputs. The various methods of indicating disk contents all showed a nearly full 1.5 Tb disk but only 110Gb specifically accountable. Decided that the 'simplicate and add lightness' dictum was best,, so did a transfer of the 110G to another disk, formatted the 1.5Tb and transferred the 110Gb back again. So far, (fingers tightly crossed) it appears to be back to normal. I appreciate that I haven't found the 'problem' but 0s and1s technology makes my head hurt!!
