What just happened? Again . . .
Sudden black screen followed by full re-boot. i.e., it calls on the start items. BUT, it then goes back to the exact item I was reading. (This time, Pprune.)
If it was, like some years ago on an older PC, a capacitor near the CPU, it wouldn't reboot. Indeed, it would I hope, offer Normal start etc., but now a smooth return to where I was.
Plus, on restart, it says something like 'Getting your PC ready'. Surely, MS wouldn't just crash your system mid keystroke . . . would they?
Can I seek the information from some kind of event list? That's a bit beyond my scope, normally, but this has happened half a dozen times, so must be addressed.

It does rather sound like it's crashing during repeated attempts at an update. Is it Win10? There have been updates issued a couple of days ago.

Thanks. I did see somewhere that there had been so many complaints about 10 updates interfering with people's work that they've promised to not do it.
You'd have thought they'd have known it was a crass thing to do.
Anyway, I'll look through your link when I've finished my full time job of coordinating my medical issues. A piece of parchment and a good horse used to be all it took to run a kingdom.

Mmm . . . looks a bit tedious. About the right time and it says it shut down so must be it.
Not at all sure what to do now. It's a fairly new 'thing' but doesn't tie in with anything else I can think of.

Leaving out MS Win 10 updates as an aside for now
Its not the old chestnut of a failed FAN - Bad RAM or heaven forbid CPU Temperature issues ? again a failed FAN.
Assuming its a WIN 10 PC and Newish (not one of CAT IIIs' type ancient wonder Boxes.)
Win 10 updates: Its possible MS in their wisdom is updating some system drivers as part of the regular monthly updates and this is causing a "System Panic".
Disable or postpone windows updates if you can and see if the problem stops happening for now.
Edit: "My PC will soon be running Windows 10 and the updates are a source for concern. " I missed the prev post and I'm inclined to suspect a H/W problem

Yes, mine is a bit old - a MB from ebay to fill a spare box.
After I'd got a new modem/router it had been running fine, so this problem is the result of me sitting here and saying, 'It's running fine'. Within a week, it went TU for the first of many shut-downs.
I'll cut the updates for a while and see what happens.
