CD Roms have been killed!!
Loaded Nero CD Rom burner recently - next visit to my machine I find that my DVD Rom and the CD-RW have both been "killed off" by (presumably) the Nero.
Neither of the drives (E & F) show up when I do an "explore" of "my computer".
Both drives appear in "System", "device manager" - but both have yellow circles with exclamation marke.
Windows XP Pro. Don't have access to the original drivers - they are part of a "system reboot" CD that came with the original machine.
Any thoughts??

I doubt its Nero causing the problem as I recently upgraded to XP Pro and installed Nero. Try this link to MS Knowledge Base:

I tried the link but found nothing constructive enough to fix the problem...
I had another trawl through properties etc. and found this message on both drives...
"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"
It gave me a button to click for "Troubleshoot" but this just led me to a blank page with a "search" window...didn't know where to start with that.

I don't know XP but I am surprised by that statement. There should be a full set of drivers on the hard drive for PnP to work.
My first reaction would be to go to "add/remove hardware" and remove the two drives. Then re-boot and, if XP is anything like W2K, it will find the two drives and re-install them.
I've had a similar problem with Nero and my external CD/RW drive on a W2K machine and that's how I fixed it.

I am currently using XP Pro and Nero with no probs, could it be anything else???
Have you tried system restore?? (new discovery for me, it may have it's limitations but seems good so far).
When all else fails I just format the hard drive and start again, far less time consuming than trying to track down specific problems.

Now I use a different burner program; EasyCD; and in the FAQ is a tiny little note that when Windows Media Player is updated it overwrites certain files that EasyCD Creator uses; the result being that EasyCD Creator must be re-installed after the update.
Other threads here tell us about a recent update to WMP.
