Windows 7 ISO

I need to reinstall W7 Ultimate 64bit and the DVD seems to be duff, a scratch on the surface is probably not helping. The site I used to download from (Digital River) doesn't work. The official MS site only offers me a Bulgarian version when I enter the license number (thanks Bill) Does anyone know of a place where I can get a safe ISO download?

I've only just found this tool but it seems to work and generates a link that downloads direct from MS - I've started a download but as it's still running I can't yet confirm that it generates a usable ISO:

Perhaps you could let me know if it works - I've just tried it but it does not offer me any dropdown options.
Cheers

On the right I selected "Windows 7" and was shortly after presented with a "Select edition" menu on the left. Selected the version desired, "Confirm", picked the language and "Confirm" again, then picked 64- or 32-bit.

Maybe you need the legacy version? I was using Win10 FWIW.

Two processes. One to make the ISO creating process function (ISO creating tool I think) which you download first and then the actual download. These were specifically from MS.

Then the problems start. (though on another occasion it all worked faultlessly.)

It seems that calling down the OS ISO is a lot more difficult these days. MS, no doubt in a defensive mode against theft, now require the key for the machine it's going to be on. In my case, none of the OS keys from the iterations that had served me well for several years would work. In desperation, I applied the original sticker key from a machine I'd sold years ago, but it worked - that time. However, it's also a potential dead end because sometimes their computer tells you to go to the manufacturer for support. Yeh, right. HP and their bloat.

In this case, it was all to lay hands on a new copy of W10 that was upgradeable to 64bit, and what's more aggravating, the copy running the target machine was on an authenticated OS 10 that they had foist upon me. Mind you, I'd got the key for that via Belarc.

..and the result is - a complete succeess. Downloaded and installed OK. Thank you very much for the link Mr P. Can now get down to some serious fettling.

Good to know it actually works - the ISO I downloaded seemed good but the proof is in the installation pudding.

Is nobody being asked for their key before they allow the ISO file to start the download?

If this is the case, are you sure you're dealing with MS on both
files?

If so, I don' t get it. The above problem occurred for me several times on different machines - albeit over a few month time span.

I'll try it again when I get a moment.

Using the HeiDoc tool no key is required for the download, the ISO is definitely coming direct from MS and there is no media creation tool involved.

Thanks. I'll give it a go fairly shortly just to see how it goes.

Le Pingouin
Many thanks from having been a lurker on this thread. I have just completed the process (about 3 hours in all) and complete success This was particularly appreciated, since the supposed back-up disc which came with the machine (2nd hand) was quite useless! From my particular perspective, the opening choice of the setup screen (Full update or not) was (for me) only suitable WITHOUT the updates. Trying to use the update version caused the process to 'hang' very early in the sequence (17%). May well be just my machine. Thank you again

You're very welcome. I didn't even know it existed until Tone's request prompted me to go Googling so it's a win all around

Little note of warning - I wanted W7 Ultimate 64bit, it downloaded and installed OK but would not then update. Lots of threads about this problem. Managed to cvercome it using WSUS but it's a right pia. All OK now. Exact same problem with W7 Pro.

I've had exactly the same problem using the Win7 installation discs that came with laptops on several occasions - it's the update process causing the problems rather than these downloaded ISOs.
