Fleur Telecom

Propelled by ire on reading that the CEO of Talktalk received a £1.8 million bonus last year.....

.....am I being paranoid in suspecting that TT deliberately "migrated" 300,000+
"difficult to serve customers" to a separate company which they set up, so that when challenged about poor customer service on TT, they can now claim "nothing to do with me guv, the problem has been solved".

I still get bombarded with popups from TT inviting me to "chat with a TT advisor". I did once, asking "why did you kick me and a lot of others off to a new ISP that no one had heard of?". Hang up.

Did TT create Fleur Telecom? How could one ever find out?

TaxyD.....

.......actually, nothing has changed. My download speeds are still 0.9 to 1.0 on a good day. The landline phone still works.
iPlayer might be usable in the middle of the night - I haven't stayed up to find out.
TalkTalk TV (which I'm always being urged to get by TT) not a chance with those speeds. None of the goodies are available because Open Reach point blank refuse to let any other ISPs into the exchange. When I last enquired BT, having checked my line, said "we don't think we can give you a broadband service". So there is little point in trying to switch to another provider.

The reason why TT have switched you to another company is that people like you without a fibre connection drag down their customer average speed statistic. They will eventually advertise that TT customers have the highest average speed in the hope it will attract more business.

I don't think BT can stop any ISP putting in their own equipment in BT exchanges but in smaller exchanges the ISP's will pick up few customers so the investment is not worth their while.

It is unlikely your speed would increase with another ISP anyway but another ISP could give you a lower bill.

The issue for you is the distance you are from your telephone exchange. The longer the distance the slower the speed. Openreach are putting in fibre cabinets next to the existing green cabinets seen on many street corners. This basically means that your internet speed is given a massive boost because your copper connection only has to travel a few hundred metres and not several miles.

The question you have to asked is how long, if ever, will your local cabinet take to get a fibre connection. There are BT websites where you can put in your phone number for an answer like this one https://www.homeandwork.openreach.co...get-fibre.aspx

LTN man....

.....following your final link..."there are no plans for your area, think about doing your own line importation". Yeah, right!!

BT are so forward thinking that when we moved in here 9 years ago they said they could only offer a party line.
