Outlook and e-mail

I don't believe this. Another attempt by Micros*** to force everyone to buy new software.

Updates are coming that will prevent Office Outlook from receiving email

Over the next few weeks we will be releasing updates that will prevent Outlook email from being delivered. When you notice that you’re no longer receiving email, follow the set of steps below:

For Outlook 2003 customers:

Remove your email account from your Outlook 2003 desktopapplication

Re-add your email account to your Outlook 2003 desktopapplication

For Outlook 2007 customers:

Remove your email account from your Outlook 2007 desktopapplication

Re-add your email account to your Outlook 2007 desktopapplication

For Outlook 2010 customers:

Remove your email account from your Outlook 2010 desktopapplication

Re-add your email account from your Outlook 2010 desktop application

If you don’t know what version of Outlook you have, you can click here
for instructions to find out.

It's not and you don't

They are updating Outlook and the patch forces you to delete and then re-add your account to Outlook, previously downloaded emails are preserved.

I'm confused by this - is this referring to the Outlook client installed on PCs, or Outlook.com?

Saab,
It applies to those using Outlook to manage their mail on their desktop.

I don't use outlook.com, so I don't know if it applies to that.

I have done what they said, but can't find the right way to direct mail to what always used to be my inbox. So I now have my "old" inbox, that worked perfectly well, and a new inbox which is not as intuitive as the "delete" instruction no longer works, - which was the press of the delete key - I have to use the "purge" instruction from the drop down list. The delete key now just puts a line through unwanted mail, or stuff I do not want to keep. I then have to purge it.

This new arrangement also delivers all the crap to my desktop that used to stay in the (BT) server in Junk e-mail.

It wasn't broke - why "fix" it??

I've used both Outlook Express (RIP) and Office Outlook 2007 to send and receive my Hotmail e-mails for years and all still seems fine.

Lord knows why Microsoft decided to confuse the fertilizer out of everyone by renaming Hotmail as 'Outlook' - perhaps it just [email protected] e-mail which is being affected by this patch and [email protected] won't be affected?

I don't know about hotmail. The "patch" impacted my Outlook 2007 on my desktop.

Ancient Observer, the article you mention refers to outlook.com (previously Hotmail which is what I will now call it). MS are making changes to Hotmail so if you use Hotmail with Outlook (desktop program) you need to follow the instructions.
Otherwise, you are unaffected, so you shouldn't have done anything. Suggest making a new Outlook "profile" (control panel > mail) and starting again.

Er, well, I hear what you say, but.........I was affected. My outlook became a deceased Outlook. It was not resting. It was not stunned. It was not pining.
It had gone to meet its maker.
As I said in the OP, there is also a community piece about sending e-mails. My Outlook decided not to send any emails. It then decided not to receive any...............

Why the f**k can't "they" leave well alone ? There was nothing wrong with Outlook Express.

Enough to drive one to Apple ( not that they are any better at this so-called "improvement" nonsense )

and I'm not going to update to Win. 10, either, by the time that the "free" period ends - July ? - they'll be up to Win 11 if not Win 12.
