WinASPI??

Went slightly(?) off topic in a previous thread (Linux assistance...) re a problem with my CD burner and audio converter/recorder. Attempts to use same brought up a message "The WinASPI file '?.?' can't be found, therefore you can currently select only image recording. The missing file is part of the WINDOWS 95.98/me // please fix the problem and reboot. Error 15 (mismatched components)"
This is not a helpful message since neither W98 nor ME help files refer to ASPI.
In case anyone else finds themselves in this predicament, the cure is in a 'freebie' file , easily available - ASPI!.EXE. (Note the exclamation mark in the file name) I got mine via Google. Downloaded it, ran it - instant fix... Hooray!
I mention this since the site from whence it came indicated that this was a fairly frequent occurrence, so may be of use to other Ppruners. Loss of the correct ASPI drivers (can happen for all sorts of reasons, apparently) means that computer can't recognise your CD.

The ASPI layer actually consists of 4 files

Apix.vxd
Aspienum.vxd
Wnaspi32.dll
Winaspi.dll

The full set 4.70 set is hard to track down and I can no longer find it on the web - if anyone wants it email me and I'll send it (40KB).

http://www.audioconverter.info/Q1002.php has a pointer to the Adaptec ASPI layer installer, but I'm not sure if it includes ALL the files.

Cruise over to http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/sup...ey=aspichk.exe and have a look.

This is Adaptec's ASPI checker.
