What's with all the updates anyway?
Not counting Windows, which is known to have more security holes than a giant Swiss cheese, some other programs keep pestering for updates. The worst offender is Firefox, closely followed by Flashplayer and more occasionally Java.
All of them claim the updates are urgent security patches. Nothing about better performance or more functionality, it's always security.
How do they keep finding security holes on an almost daily basis, can't they get it right ever, once and for all? One could think they'd have at least a couple of keyboard drones scanning the source code for any remaining problems. Apparently they rather depend on the black hatters coming up with zero day exploits and then patch them as they dribble in.

As to firefox updates I don't allow them (nor prompt me) until I want to. Try... Click TOOLS > OPTIONS > ADVANCED > UPDATE. I have selected "Never check for updates" Then click OK
When I want an update..... HELP > ABOUT FIREFOX Then a window opens giving you the option "check for updates" Hope this helps.
