Why do some websites stop loading when..

you select STOP, and other sites continue on loading regardless. Very annoying and I don't know why...

Typically this is because of some script your browser is busy parsing in the background.

Its become very popular these days for websites of offload processing from their servers to users machines. JavaScript has become very popular for everything ranging from analytics through to, well, everything in the case of companies like Google who pretty much build their entire user experience on JavaScript.

Assuming your web browser is up to date, yes, I guess so.

Theoretically it should never happen, because normally its down to sloppy coding by the site's developers causing an infinite loop in their scripts !

So I guess you could email a moan to the site's maintainers if its one you visit frequently ....

NoScript gives you click-to-run Javascript, which you may find useful - although you will find that things break unless you "whitelist" certain sites.
