XBMC
Some computer nerds were chatting about XBMC the other day and said why waste money renting Sky when you can download (via a jailbroken Apple TV) or buy a box that will give you everything for free. They stated that you can virtually get any TV channel you want especially States side. They also suggest the way forward is now streaming TV rather than have clumsy aerials or dishes.

I haven't used XBMC but have been a long term lurker on their fora.
I tend to look at the hardware forum.
They are now known as Kodi TV and the website is kodi.tv (no www).
I suggest you go there as a first stop.

Kodi (XBMC) is a pretty good media hub with great flexibility and many add-ons which add features such as downloading subtitles for movies you have.
Of itself, it doesn't automagically let you stream the world's TV, although if you know how to do that, it can be the vehicle you use. In one sense, the question you're asking (does anyone use XMBC) isn't really relevant to what you want to know (how do I watch TV for free).
