Not a big fan of this thing, my wife does most of the activities.
What has puzzled me is that in the "suggested people we might know" two names have cropped up who I do know, one in Bahrain and the other in Athens. Both are professional contacts with whom I only ever communicate by e-mail using the company laptop.
I heve never sought them out as "friends" so how can this happen?
Hope somebody can shed some light on how this should be

Everyone you are friends with on FB and everyone they are friends with and so on plus everything you have done on FB such a liking pages, posts, artists, films or ads you have clicked on is used to create a detailed profile of you. If you are surfing the web while logged in to FB that activity is added to your profile. If you are using FB on your phone then your address book, calender, call logs and so on are accessible to FB.
FB will know an awful lot about you if you let them.

I used to notice the same thing with business contacts and other folk on my email list being suggested until I saw sense and deleted my faecesbook account.
I reckoned that somehow it was managing to access my contact list which I've never shared or synced anywhere. FB isn't to be trusted.

Sorry not to have responded earlier, been out at sea, or is it all at sea
I think you guys have answered the question. I think that using the laptop for company mail and as it has been used to look at Farceb00k, my professional contacts have been hoovered up.
Now this I find more than a bit off-putting
