WebGet ?

My Thunderbird Browser is being imundated by adverts from something attributed to Webget ?

I can select a "spanner" symbol - on the advert presented - go to Options which gives me the option to cancel WebGet stuff for various short periods, or More Options, which alllows me to 'untick' their product.

Next day -start all over again, i.e. the 'unticked' box is now 're-ticked'

Grrrr ! I installed Adblock some time ago, which seems to have done its' job - until now.

Any clues out there ?

I had the misfortune to download that PoS malware by mistake - it was a hidden 'option' included in some other download.

Normal Windows 'uninstall' via. Control Panel wouldn't get rid of the sodding pest, so after some research, I downloaded a program called 'Revo Uninstaller' and that did the trick!

Don't these bast**ds know that their actions are counter productive, I'd avoid their 'products' like the plague now ?

Later .... As you said, Control Panel ( Windows H'eight.1) wouldn't apparently remove it, so went to Revo and downloaded the free trial, but when I then interrogated Revo, "Webget" was no longer there, so it looks as if Windows H'eight.1 uninstall had removed it after all ?

Will monitor it for awhile but am shortly about to go away for longer than the 30 day Free Trial, and don't want to come back and find that I am locked into a contract and have to pay them arrears. The "conditions" say that to continue to use Revo after 30 days you MUST register and pay them IF you want to continue using it, and I read in to that the let-out that IF you don't try to use it, then you are NOT committed to registering and paying, but ......... don't trust anyone these days ! so will remove Revo before I leave. ( wonder how many Free Trials one can download ! )

Go to malwarebytes.org and download the free version of their product.
A splendid piece of kit and they have a free version which works well.
Re the original pest, I would bet that what happened was that, during the download/installation of another utility or software, you have to go through the "Accept/Decline" T&C etc. Most people just tick "Accept" without reading the full spiel. (I know I have done it). Read the T&C panel and decline everything other than the software you had wanted to download.

AdwCleaner and Junkware Removal Tool can also do a good job. I don't suppose you recently installed anything by Elaboratebytes? One of its advertising partners does a driveby install whether or not you tick the "yes, I really want this junk" box.


The company behind WebGet has around 100 variations of the same product, with name and code variations to try to avoid detection by anti-malware products. One installer trick is to offer "standard" and "custom" installations; only "custom" has the option to deselect the adware/malware payload (and may ignore your choice, anyway).

@ ExSp33db1rd- use the "portable" version of Revo. No need to install it or sign up, just extract the downloaded Zip file to a suitable folder (on a memory stick if needed) and click on the "exe" within. I've used this excellent product many times, and it's always done the job.

It has even successfully removed anti-virus programmes, although you need to ignore the (usual) prompt to re-boot given by the programmes own un-installer which Revo runs first.
