Windows7 puzzle
I have just installed Win7 64bit on a new machine, and found that the installer file in Windows/Installer that generates icons ({91140000-0011-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE} ) was missing (I had only 'default' icons for many progs including Office). I had been doing some 'housework' tidying up my 'old' Sata drives, and had deleted the Windows folder from the 32bit Win7 drive installation which seems to have caused the problem.
I had a look at 'Repair' via the Win7 64bit DVD but was told it was not the correct version for my OS??
I have restored the file from a backup now and restored all the icons (including Office) but cannot understand why I had that message.
Edit to add: Win7 is installed on a SSD if that makes any difference and the DVD is SP1
Edit 2:
I have now discovered that both the Win7 DVD and my repair disk cannot use the mouse on a USB3 port but only on a 2 or lower. That caused a little brow-furrowing too.

Ta, CIII, but not much help there, I'm afraid. I had been through most of that and only restoring the C:\Windows\Installer\{91140000- blah blah fixed it.
Now I know that repair will not run with USB3 I should be better placed for the next puzzle!
Why the file was 'disappeared' I have no idea.

Thanks
BOAC I'm going to test the Utility value of the 8,1 32 GB USB 3 recovery stick on the borrowed win 8.1 Dell this week end - Unwanted install of Ubuntu 13.04 has left me with multiple partitions. Ubi and extra partitions of the OS.
8.1 Recovery creation in Windows, Give'th the end user the chane to delete the recovery partition as part of the "Creation Boot USB process"- On a Consumer Dell - Yep !!!!!! - I will let let you and the crowd know of the consequences.
