Question Cd Writer Draw Will Not Open?

Any info on a solution to my E drive draw not opening would be most beneficial.

Last night I was backing up all myu digital photos onto a CD, when I had finished I could not eject it? I have looked in the DEVICE MANAGER and there are no yellow exclamation marks and it advises that the accessory is working normally.

Any suggestions before I don the black handkerchief and sentence it.

Thanks in advance.

Hugh, an expert I ain't, but it may be a bit early for the last rites. Were you using a formatted CD for use in either Adaptec's Direct CD or Nero's InCD? I was looking through the Help section of Direct CD last night and there is a whole section on Ejecting a formatted CD, believe it or not.

Apart from that I offer no reason why the drawer won't open, but if you straighten out a paper clip and insert it into the pinhole next to the eject button and push, the drawer will open far enough for you to pull it open manually and retrieve your CD. Then try Rule 1; When in doubt reboot, and try it with another CD.

(You have no idea what a fraud I feel offering advice on this site rather than asking for it)

Aisleman,

Yes I have tried the software route to no avail. It's a Sony internal model.

Binoculars,

Yes I was using a formatted CD, however, I dont know which software program was being used as I have both Adaptec and Nero installed but was using the 'right click and 'send to' way of sending them to the CD from 'My Briefcase'.

I will try the paperclip method has I have already tried the REBOOT. Do I need power on to use your paperclip method?

Thank-you both for the GEN so far.

Rgds,

Hugh

Paperclip method should work even without power.

I am only guessing here...

You are using Nero in a pre 5.5.8.2 version which is known to have some bugs...upgrade!!!
Sony...which type, are you running the latest firmware for your unit? Look here and here

Seems unlikely that both programs are fully installed, as Nero spits the dummy if it sees Direct CD already on there. Just check Adaptec in Start-Programs; if Direct CD is installed go to its Help section and type in Eject. I don't know the name of Nero's equivalent, but I would imagine the same thing would apply.

Binoculars, aisleman,

Thanks very much for your help on this. I tried the paperclip method and the draw now appears to work everytime. I will however, still check the Direct CD installation, Binoculars.

Once again thanks.

By the way, would you consider a job in our I.T dept? As i'm pretty sure they wouldn't have know this!
