why do letters redistribute themselves

As on old time flying instructor l know damn well that there is no such thing

as a silly question.

lt doesn`t help now, with my ignorance of things computered, that l tap

letters and have to delete and start again because letters have moved.

4 times with this.

Feel really bad for asking for help.

there are little gremlins built in the back of text editors these days that will and can silently "correct your spelling mistakes." I suspect that if you turn off autocorrect the system will stop doing it.

though it isn't all bad on the front. prune's helper put the second r in autocorrect for me when I didnt hit the key hard enough.

Best live with it then. Although it is embarrassing to send an email to find

the sense lost through inappropriate paragraphs.

What instrument are you using? 'Pad of some sort? Laptop? A friend is constantly having this trouble when she lets her palm touch the touch pad on the lappy. Cursor jumps all over the place. Any clues here?

This can often happen if you're using a laptop with a particularly sensitive touchpad. As you type you may be inadvertently catching the pad with your palm and moving the cursor to a random point. Try changing the touchpad settings or just be careful not to touch the pad when you type. Or you may want to install 'Touchfreeze' which disables the touchpad when you type. A link to a description and download is here: touchfreeze | PCWorld

Good luck.

Yeah, used to be a well known problem on the old ThinkPads with their sensitive nipples.

Wasn't there a virus that used to screw up keyboard input?

I'm sure there's more than one.

If they make viruses that show pop-ups and play sounds, its not too difficult to make one that messes around with the computer.

Best use of 10Watt's time would be to completely reformat the computer and start from fresh.

10W - it would help if you told us which machine, which OS and which typing programme/s, and keyboard or touchpad - or touchscreen!

What do you mean by "the letters can move up three sentences our down, it seems without logic." - are they going to the same position in the line or to the start of a line?

By the way, just ignore the 'reformat' thing for a while.

Sorry about going awol, the laptop is an Asus X53Z with windows 7 and l

plugged in a Texet mouse.

lt was fine for months but in the spring it "caught" something that prompted

it to send unau not all - thorised emails to a few people - in my contacts list.

As you can see, it has just done it again and my "low beer" warning light

is definitely on !

A few contacts were quite annoyed, especially a portly gentleman

who received an advert for a slimming club.

l thought that was all fixed, but this has me worried now.

l haven`t corrected the above, and it may well jumble it more when l send.

Sounds like one of 'dem virrusssses, 10W. Have you run a virus check?

I remember this ancient one with fondness:
"Greetings, You have just received the "IRISH VIRUS". As we don't have any programming experience, this Virus works on the honour system. Please delete all the files on your hard drive manually and forward this Virus to everyone on your mailing list. Thank you for your cooperation."

This morning l ran again the bought Norton product, and the freebie Avast

application. Both show clear.

l confess my "low beer" warning light is out.

ls it worth spending money on Norton renewal - due soon - again ?

Well that seems to have gone well !

Not a good idea to run two AV products together. CAREFULLY remove Norton (use their uninstall programme) and throw it in a big bin. Avast is as good and free.

Then set Avast to run a boot-time scan (it is slow). If that comes up clean, I guess you have a keyboard problem on your laptop.

I'm wondering what you mean by 'letters redistributing themselves'.

If you are referring to a programme such as Word or Office Writer (word processing programme, there are a couple of settings that may be relevant.

There is 'widows and orphans' control which prevents the splitting of paragraphs across more than one page. That means that you may not get a page break where you expect.

Similarly, justification settings (centered, left, right) may cause a line to appear differently to your expectation.

Otherwise, I don't know what you mean. The l

I have experienced this random paragraphs problem in the past myself.
took a while to remember the details.
it was, as one poster suggested, caused by accidental inputs from the touchpad on the laptop. I solved it by turning the touchpad off since my inputs were from the mouse.

Agree. If you use a proper mouse, turn off the touchpad.

Norton out. Avast in, and check.

I blanch when it is suggested that I should "wipe and reinstall". It took me several days to set up the new pooter, and I don't willingly go through that unless I have to!

I too have been irritated by trackpads, to the extent that I disable them in the BIOS or Windows.

I've got a Toshiba Satellite L300 laptop that does precisely the same thing as 10Watt describes. It happens when you're typing, and you inadvertently brush the touchpad with the fleshy part of your palm at the base of your thumb, at the same time as you have a critical function key such as "shift" depressed.
The combination of touching a critical function key and the touchpad at the same time creates a signal to move the typing cursor to another line.
It's infuriating - but there's a fix, and Google has it. It's a simple little program download that disables your touchpad while you're typing text. It seems to work pretty well for most people.
