iPhone 4S frustration

Morning all,

I have an iphone 4 on which I use gmail as an exchange account, meaning contacts get synced from gmail to phone.

Extolling the virtues of this setup I got Mrs GB an iphone 4s and attempted to set up the same configuration. Can I get the dam thing to work? I can not.

The exchange set up works fine, the account is verified and using the same settings on the gmail version mail is received. However I simply get a password not recognised message every time I try to use the exchange set up.

Having extensively googled I have done the following to no effect:

Switched off two stage verification in gmail
Switched it back on and used the app specific password generated by gmail
Switched it back off again
Hard reboot
Updated the OS to 6.1.3 (the same as on my iphone 4)
Fiddled around with the fetch/push/number of days mails settings
Done the Captcha unlock thing on gmail

Can anyone help atall?

Have you tried using the full username@domain as your username rather than just username ?

Have you tried changing your gmail/exchange passwords making sure you pick something strong ?

Have you been to https://www.google.com/accounts/DisplayUnlockCaptcha on the iPhone's browser ?

I've sorted this.

It seems that you can't set up gmail as an exchange account any more. Existing set ups will continue to work but new ones won't.

You have to set up the mail as imap account and then add a cardav account for contacts and calendars.
