Won't shut down!

Thanks to all those who helped with my now resolved virtual memory problem.

Strangely enough my PC has now decided that it never wants to shut down! If I go through the normal shut down process it acts as if I had pressed restart. Any ideas?

Regards
wizzy

OK, I'll put my psychic hat on and assume that you are running Windows XP.

Try going to:

Windows XP Shutdown & Restart Troubleshooter

Had a similar problem shortly after loading Win 2000. Try:

Control panel - System - Advanced - start-up & recovery - then untick automatically reboot

Sorry chaps, a bit more info would definitely have helped. 2gig P4, 40 gig HDD, 256mb SDRAM, GeForce 2mx, Windows XP used for internet, word processing and video editing.

Will look into your solutions. Many thanks and keep them coming. Feedback to follow...

regards

Have disabled the automatic boot so we shall see what happens, thanks FJJP. Jet II - That second web site is most interesting, especially as it specifically mentions shut down problems post installation of Roxio's easy CD creator which I had just recently installed!!!

OK then here we go...
disabling automatic boot caused me to see a scary blue screen on every shut down. The screen contains text as follows-

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check to make sure any new hardware is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.
If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching and shadowing.
If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options and then select Safe Mode.

Technical Information:

***STOP: 0x0000000A (0x00000016, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x804F6519)"

I have a few other items to remove (such as a mobile PIN card reader and its software) but if you have any other ideas please let me know.

Regards

On the Roxio website they even admit these problems, also no solution is offered or been worked on

Dump Roxio...which is not so easy as I know of others who ended up re-installing from scratch. Have a look at Nero...excellent program
