Beep codes.
Beep codes.
Anybody know a site that has the beep codes?.
Had a book of them once,can't find it now, something weird happened to my brothers machine, got a series of beeps, and it just kept shutting down,poked it a bit and it booted up fine, it appears to be ok now,just curious as to what two short and one long beep meant.

Your brother's computer appears to be signalling you in Morse code Mr. D. Perhaps U?
I'm no beep expert but FL310 once or twice posted the following:
1 = DRAM refresh not working
2 = Parity circuit not working or parity status bits are not
cleared when parity is disabled
3 = First 64k memory test failure
4 = System timer is not counting properly
5 = Processor register tag test failure
6 = 8042 keyboard controller Gate A20 error
7 = Processor exception error encountered
8 = Display memory R/W test error (non fatal)
9 = ROM BIOS checksum error
10 = CMOS shutdown register Read/WRITE error
Is that what you are referring to? I admire your technique. Where do you poke these damn machines in order to get them to behave?

Beep codes no longer follow a unilateral set of rules. They can vary between various bios manufacturers and may also be customised.
Why don't you take the trouble to search the net. You'll find a mine full of help and advice from a miriad of specialist computer sites and forums.

..- = U
this sounds more as a bad connection. First, check all the cables for keyboard, modem, printer, scanner, drawing board, network etc...to sit as tight as possible.
If no success, switch off machine and open the case and check all cables inside, all cables from the motherboard, all harddrives, floppy, zip drive etc...all cable!!!!
test again.
If no success, switch off machine and have a look at the dust around the machine, pull the cards and use a smooth brush to clean everything.....yes, everything, take the RAM out etc.
test again.
If no success, report further...
