Firefox 16.0.1

I've just downloaded this version which seems to run well with Mountain Lion. The annoying thing is that annoying ads seem to creep in when you click on a highlighted word in a text. I've not seen this before , but it's very off putting as you have to guide your pointer away from these texts.

Chrome doesn't do this but then of course they don't have a drop down address bar!

What are my options?

Ad blocker plus already installed. All that does is remove ads from different parts of a web page.

Might have a look here: I have highlighted text which links to an ad popup. What is this, how do I get rid of it? | Firefox Support Forum | Mozilla Support

Sorted. It was something called a torrent handler which has been disabled. All scans with associated software didn't come up with anything.

I have the same symptoms with Firefox 16.0.2. Adblock is on, Norton 360 active, no proxy; torrent handler not found.
Hyperlink image appears to be referenced to ( intext-a 'dot' akamaihd 'dot' net ) and runs as ‘swf’ program.

Disabling Shockwave Flash 11.4.4.402.265 appears to stop the link.

Any further ideas?
