Blocked From PPRuNe in Beijing

Just spent a couple of weeks touring arround China ad felt almost at home logging into PPRuNe from my hotels.

until

When I got to the Beijing airport lounge, I tried to log in and poof up comes a note saying that ;

"This IP has been blocked" Contact PPRuNe administrator

So what likely has happened in only this one spot?

BTW, when I gave up logging on PPRuNe, I giggled for the adress for "flyertalk" and I was then permanently disconected from the internet for good. Of course the papers over ther have all kinds of stories about the use of suspect "keywords" in Giggle and the loss of internet connections.

In my experience 'blocking' in China can appear to be quite random though there are certain times in the year where the authorities get very sensitive.

And now it is 4/6....so that may be a reason.

This is very likely due to the amount of spam now emanating from China - IT ranges have been blocked by IB to prevent it.

The proportion of spam to legitimate access is by the far the worst in CHina - virtually all spam and virtually no legitimate access. 80-90% of the recent spambots were associated with Chinese IP addresses, for example.

Unfortunately it would appear that some collateral damage has occurred.

lomapaseo, we've been banning IP blocks in China due to the waves of spam constantly coming from there. Your IP address may have been included in that block. If you need a particular address unblocked, just let an admin/mod know.

Of course, we can't control if China decides to block our site(s) wholesale!
