Extracting addresses

My father's lap top did drown on a glass of water and I replaced. I recovered the data and the programs (from the old drive) but now I need to recovered the email contacts - addresses from that files.

Any ideas how to do it? Do I need to re-installed the outlook express and use it again or there is a more direct way?

Any help will be most appreciated.

Its normally a hidden file named *.wab in the folder
<Windows>\Profiles\<Username>\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book

Each user name has its own address book
Simply copy that file to the new PC to a new folder. Then from within Outlook Express use the import function to drag the addresses in
Don't try copying the address book into the same location on the new machine - that won't work. You have to use the "import" tool

Milo Minderbinder,

Thanks for your input. I am going along the path you describe but there is no Address Book past Microsoft.

Could the Address Book might be somewhere else? I have found a Contacts.dbx
file and I am wondering if I can work with this file.

Many thanks again for any help.

From my distant memory of Outlook Express it stores its data in .dbx files and I think you will find contacts.dbx contains the e-mail addresses stored by Outlook Express which you are looking for.

No - dbx is for emails. wab is for addresses.
