HD Recorders and tinternet?
HD Recorders and tinternet?
Bought a Humax High Definition Hard Disk Recorder a couple of days ago, still pottering about with it seeing what it can do,might even get around to reading the instruction manual later once I have figured it out.
Question? it can apparently be connected to the internet and has a ethernet socket on the back,if I connect this to the output of my cable modem, how would I control what is on the screen? ie what does one use for a keyboard and mouse on me Telly

IIRC Mr D the connection is only for pay tv ie you buy a card with x£s on it ans stuff it in the slot then when you want to watch the channel it goes on line and debits a set amount of of the card, as for interfacing to the tv I suspect all you get a message that says "this is a pay channel press ok on the remote to continue" or summat like that.

Internet is for the catch up tv i.e iplayer, though there possibly are some pay tv services and for streaming files from your pc to telly. (not sure if this model does that though!)

You use the remote control that came with the Humax...

Amongst the useful information buried in that manual is the location of the button which takes you straight to Playlist, instead of the four button pesses you otherwise have to perform.
It's under the slider, third one down in the centre of the main block.
----------------------------------------------------------
Edit to say I beg your pudden, it's actually top right on that block.

Thanks chaps, one shall have to break the habit of a lifetime and actually read the manual I think.
Whoooh!!! Don't do that. You'll immediately be expelled from the society of blokes.
Read a manual. Whatever next?
I bought a Humax freeview digi box with the HD channel a year or so ago,the HD channels were spiffing but the normal channels were very poor compared to the ones from the tuners on me TV however it downloaded some updated software and put itself right by itself.
I really fancied the LG full hd HD recorder but it was about 150 quid more than the Humax kit.
I have found LG stuff is very good.

HDD Recorders-Help is a click away.
Try www.forums.digitalspy.co.uk and ferret around til you find the Freeview Digital topics. Try entering the model make and # and hopefully there will be enough postings to pass the evening away. I'm a computer Luddite, but this site has saved me from dumping my faithful if quirky Digifusion machine in the skip.
The other area in this site is the "Terrestrial" section which leads to Freeview and associated kit.
www.forums.digitalspy.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=119 may take you straight to the Humax section?
Good Luck

Sex-change operation ?
My SAGEM non-hard-drive satellite receiver also does the same, connects to the internet. But why bother when it's just more of the appalling rubbish you get via the dish.
