Website Builder for a Beginner

Can anyone recommend a programme - preferably free - for a beginner to build a website for a club. It will need to have secure password access for members, a paypal facility for bookings, subscriptions etc.

Ideas?

I downloaded WYSIWYG and when I checked it had ghosted HTML all over the place - it got a bit fraught for a mere beginner.

Then my nephew appeared and used the inbuilt Windows HTML writer to expose the duplicate html code - once deleted - OK!

Agaricus bisporus,

and

Ooh err... a bit of run before you can walk going on here, Sir.

Suggest you take one step at a time, and build the basic website to a level that you are satisfied with before moving on to dynamic database driven elements.

Try Adobe Dreamweaver. Not free, but has been around for donkey's years.

Oh, and seasons greetings to you !

Having looked at various free offerings I eventually shelled out for Dreamweaver.

Purists scoff but it is a first class program to use. I also went on a three day course which was also well worth the money to accelerate the learning process.

Dreamweaver is excellent for websites.

If you want user-access control, then you need to read up on .htaccess.
If you want users inputting controlled stuff, then a bit of PHP may come in handy. None of it is particularly difficult, but there is a learning curve.

Or use wordpress.com and just use the pages feature rather than the blog posts. Or a combination of the two. It's free and has the ability to restrict access to members only. Paypal integration shouldn't be too difficult.
