Firefox problem

Have Firefox 7.0.x with no problems until tonight when it loads only to give me an error dialogue screen and option to restart or quit. Restarting just brings the same thing up again. Have uninstalled and reinstalled but still the same thing. Presume have to manually clear out some files, any ideas where to start ? Thanks.

Just using the standard uninstall procedure doesn't remove your profile, which could be the problem. Note I said could - it may be one of the other bugs mentioned in the first link, so give them a try first.

Many programmes leave all sorts of files/folders/registry entries behind, I use RevoUninstaller if I want to completely rid my PC of something...

Jumping on the Firefox wagon - I am using 6 (7 still not 'recognised' by some financials). 6 has just started b*****ing around and not loading some links. I just get 'New Tab' and no 'action'.

Before you delete the user app data files make a copy of your book-marks and put it into your documents folder so you can put it back into the new Apps data Mozilla folder.

My 2c. After experience, I don't use IE or Firefox. Tried Iron, but too immature re options. Refuse to use Chrome. Have been on Opera for about six months and have zero complaints.

For the the record, my buddies and I have been in the IT industry for over 20 years. We, like many other knowledgeable contributors have a 'natural instinct'.

Before you decide to change/whatever, google your issue (forums) and decide for yourself.

Thanks. As is typical I posted the question and then got so irritated that I deleted all the folders and re-installed ! That cured it, not surprisingly, but I now have to load in all the bookmarks as GG foresaw. Still seems very slow though and what went wrong in the first place ?. Have Opera, my only issue is some financial sites don't work properly with it Anyhow, thanks for the replies.

I have zero problems with financial sites, any sites for that matter. Never had Opera rejected.

After using firefox for more than a year, I truly prefer Opera.

DO NOT bring microsucks browsers near me.

And yes, I'm trying to migrate to Linux, but big daddy makes it very difficult in my line of work.

I was going to suggest that, before scrubbing your profile, you unistalled FF7 and installed an earlier version which would pick up your profile quite happily (I think!) and then see how you got on. The other thing was on the subject of the immediate corrective mod which came out very shortly after the original FF7.

Mike X - is Iron still around? I looked for it just the other day, having tried it and scrubbed it for a similar reason to yours, to make a point with someone and could find no trace.

I notice that there has been nothing new in their IT News section since 2009; does that suggest that it's moribund if not yet completely "off its perch"?

I am having similar problems with both Firefox and IE. Firefox does not recognise some buttons on the web page (selection buttons say for weather or to open a popup window) yet works just fine on another web page. IE runs for a few minutes then shuts down with unknown error. Just happened. I am doing a system restore but don't know if this will work.

If you're running NoScript with FireFox then that's the usual cause of buttons not working, just click on the 'scripts partially allowed' bottom right (well in my case) have a look at those that are disallowed and tell it to allow and that you think might be required. It's caused by programmers being lazy and importing routines from other sites instead of embedding them.

There is a handy little tool out there for backing up your Mozilla profile if you need to move computers or whatever. Google:-

Will give it a go. Think at least part of my 'problem' was the dns servers. I switched to the google ones a few weeks ago and have now moved back to dynamic. Seems to have reduced the loading stutter.

That looks interesting, downloading now (must be getting old thinking this is interesting on a Saturday night but never mind).

The system restore, to a point just prior to the last scheduled Windows upgrade, fixed my problems. Maybe there is a bug in the Windows program.
I will see if it comes back when the computer loads the upgrade again
