Windows 7 readboost problem
All of a sudden I cant use readboost. It says sysmain is disabled.
If I go into system and try to enable it says sysmain not found.
Tried googling - one result was to delete the contents of the prefetch folder. That actually works and I can restart prefetch and then enable readyboost - until I reboot.
Any ideas??
Cheers

Quick fault find first: Start > Run > cmd > and type net start sysmain. If you receive a “System error 1058 has occured,” more than likely the sysmain (also called Readyboost) service has been disabled. You will need to run the cmd prompt as Administrator.
To enable Superfetch, click on Start and type in Services.
Right-click the Services item with the cog/gear icon next to it and run as administrator.
Scroll down to Superfetch. Right-click > properties > Startup type: Automatic > Apply > OK
ReadyBoost is now usable again. Well, it should be. Let us know.
PS. How big is the SD card/USB drive you are using?

Thanks for the repiles.
I've tried all of that but to no avail. Cannot start superfetch as windows cannot find it. Only joy I have is if I delete the prefetch folder, which works until I reboot.
I have not installed any new hardware, the memory stick is 4Gb and it has previously worked for readyboost on this machine.
Is it possible to do a windows reinstall whilst saving all thats on the HD? I've tried using the install disk for restore but it says no restore points available.
Cheers.

I would suggest you do nothing. Readyboost has a very small effect on most computers: a few percent, at best. If you lose it, don't sweat it.

Shipmate,
Confirm that you do not have an entry in your Services that says:
Superfetch|Maintains and improves system performance over time. Started|Automatic|Local System
It would be most unusual for it not to be there.
Concur with Bushfiva; do not re-install/restore point. Just leave.
Is your 4GB mem stick all devoted to Readyboost or do you have other files on there?

It's devoted to readyboost but I've since tried other sticks which are not. same result.
Not too fussed about it anyway- just wondered what it could be.
Cheers for the replies anyway
