IE8, problems with opening links?

If anyone is having problems with clicking on links within web pages and finding that the expected tabs do not open properly, have a search and see if you have somehow inadvertently downloaded ‘Facetheme’, a program which is supposed to enable users to customise the appearance of their Facebook pages. It may well do this but it also exposes the user to a blitz of adverts and pop ups.

I use IE8 and XP Pro and to my annoyance for no obvious reason recently found that links would only open if the address was copied and pasted in a new window or tab. I tracked down the source by going to Tools/Manage add-ons/Show/Currently loaded ad-ons. Going down the resultant lists one at a time I disabled each one dated around the time of the beginning of the problem and trying to open up a link by clicking on it. Eventually I found the culprit and after deleting it from the Start menu appear to have eliminated the problem.

Fingers crossed!
