Window 7 Documents Problem
I have got a new computer with Windows 7 Home and my old Office 2003 installed. I am trying to rehash some documents files from my old XP computer. The new one has no problem with them but it just lists all folder entries. On my XP one could select either list or icons; Then I could shuffle them around and change the order.
How do you select icons or change the order of a folder in Win 7?

So far I have found the icons selector. I have changed them to icons but still have the same problem.
I select the folder icon and I get the file icons. With XP 3 you could highlight a file and shift it around to change the order. In this case the file highlights but there is no vertical bar like you have in XP. There is a ghost you can move around but as soon as you release it everything is back to where you started. I have tried right clicking and moving it, I even get a box that says 'move here', but still nothing happens.
I will have to stick it, rearrange with my old laptop and bring it back again.

Can you clarify what you mean by "changing the order of a folder"
Just a thought, are you referring to the folder list that is normally on the left hand side of the window? The one that list folders and files? is that what you are missing? If so, look carefully and you should see a small arrow that you need to click to reveal your folder system.
You should see about 4 folders towards the top (from memory, no win 7 to look at, at the mo). Favourites/Libraries/Computer/Network. Try having a click round there. Can't be more specific at the moment.

Got a Data Traveller out and loaded the folder into it. Fired up the old trusty Acer laptop with the stick in and up the folder came in a way that you could understand. I shuffled the files around into the order i wanted and then fed the stick back into Windows 7. It was a different order; not the same as before but not what i wanted.
The stick now back to the laptop. I unloaded the folder onto My Documents and rearranged them there; cleared the stick and then loaded the My Docs copy into that. Back to the Windows 7 and still in the wrong order.
Then it twigged, they were in alpabetical order. They weren't when they started but they are now and nothing is going to change them.
My only chance, and it will take seven days being seven files is to modify the one I want to be first and the next day modify the one I want to be second, and so on. When that is finished I can arrange them in Chronological order which is one of the Window 7 options.

Not quite sure what you are after, but here goes...
You can organise files by date accessed, date modified, acquired,completed...in fact there are 12 date related sort possibilities.
A really simple way of organising files to appear in a certain order is to stick a number in front of the filename; for example: 0test.doc, 1test.doc, 2test.doc.. (this works with any folder/file)
So in the left hand side of Explorer you will have all your files and folders organised in order, (0,1,2,3,4... then alphabetically, A,B C...) but on the right you will have them by date, whatever. Don't forget that files and folders are sorted differently. ie; files first or folders first, your choice when clicking on the column header.
Windows organises by number first, 0,1,2,3 etc. For extra gucciness, why not add some colour to your folders with freely available tweaks?

In Win 7, on the left, where your folders and files reside, you can have them in number/alphabetical order. Click on the folder on the left, say your USB drive, and your files will display in whatever order you want, as previously mentioned. But on the right they will be in a chronological order, if that is what you have specified. Same folder, different sides, different display.
This may be a wahh, but are you being serious?
